Just heard this news through twitter and facebook and thought some of you guys might find this important. The founding member and bassplayer of UK based progressive rock band Yes passed away today, after losing the battle against cancer.

Yes are a huge part of my musical influence so this saddens me deeply.

My sincere condolences to his family, friends and fellow band members.

RIP Chris Squire... a giant of the prog rock genre has left us.

I may be wrong, but I believe Squire was the only person to be in every line up of Yes - and if that isn't the case, then he was certainly in more line-ups than anyone else... he even played with ABWH when they reformed in the late 80's, and couldn't use the name Yes because the 'real' Yes had the rights to the name.

Words cannot adequately describe how much Yes and Chris Squire's music means to me - they will always hold a special place in my heart/ears.

Beast of a bass player - when I first progressed from playing covers of relatively simpler rock songs to looking for more complex music it was his basslines that I was trying to play - great musician very sad!
