I was just curious how most DS3 users use the settings to maximize controle of the throttle/steering

I play;

left analog stick: steering
right analog stick: throttle/brake
L2: shift down
R2: shift up

But after reading some topics here on GTP on how to make GT6 more enjoyable playing with the DS3 I noticed some players use L2/R2 for braking/throttle? Is this better or not? I have to admit sometimes my hands get a bit cramped up by playing hours with the analog sticks because you're 99% of the time just full throttle lol

So what settings do you guys use? And what are the best settings in your opinion?

Please don't reply to this thread with comments like 'Buy a wheel' etc, I have no intentions of buying a wheel

👍

I use L2/R2 for accel/decel, L1 and R1 to change gear and use the left stick for steering. I usually run the controller sensitivity on -2, only time I change it to -1 or 0 are when I'm using the open wheel cars.

Having the controls mapped in this fashion allows you to be able to use the accelerator and brake and shift gear at the same time, which can be usefull when trying to maintain control of a wild car.

I do think this is less comfortable than having the right stick to either control the peddles or change gear, but buying a £/$2.99 pair of clip on trigger extensions for the L2 and R2 buttons makes a world of difference to your comfort, you don't have to claw your hands and fingers nearly as much.

left analog stick: steering
right analog stick: throttle/brake
L2: shift down
R2: shift up

plus sesitivity on 7:
if i turn the stick a certain degree i want the game respond immediatly and not slowly catching up to the steering i originally intended to use...
and for open wheelers and rb cars: dfgt

Mines pretty much default apart from making room for the RA menu which means I can't adjust the lights or wipers. :)

X to go, square to stop, and circle to make the clothes fly off.

Steering sensitivity is set to 7+.

The plus side to the stock setup is blipping the throttle on the downshifts ( something I picked up from running with clutch on Forza :D).

The stock setup does mean I can't be 100% smooth with the throttle but it suits my driving style. :P

That wonderful feature that we can't use online :irked:
In GT5, you could map the RA menu and still keep the lights or wipers, guess the nitrous button stops that now. I'd like it if the right stick moving up and down would operate the lights and wipers, but it won't let us map those controls to it.

I find L2/R2 brake/throttle best solution but use square and X as brake and throttle for drifiting and rally. Steering sensitivity at 0 except for the stupidly fast cars which I put down to -2. I do however always use auto gearbox. Having two ways to brake/throttle stops the hand cramps for me.

I might reset to default settings until the RA menu can used online as well as offline. :)

Left stick steering, L2 brake, R2 accelerator, x upshift, square downshift, o handbrake.

I like to have as much input control as possible as it allows you to more easily adapt your driving style to different cars and using this configuration (or the right stick for acceleration/brake) helps you to achieve that as they offer more travel than the buttons.

I prefer the L2/R2 combination to the right stick for two reasons; firstly it allows you to overlay your throttle and braking inputs, which can let you get an extra bit of rotation in some cars, and also I'm left handed, so my right thumb isn't up to much when it comes to moving the stick about - it feels very unnatural.

I use x for upshifts and square for downshifts because, when I switched to playing with manual gears, I had the "x faster, square slower" mentality engraved in my head from previous GT games. It worked out pretty well for me - my thumb lies across the x/square/start buttons naturally so those three functions are immediately within reach, which is nice.

For people who use L1/R1 for gear changes, do you use your middle fingers for acceleration/braking so you have your index fingers free for gear changes? Personally I find I don't have as much control when I use my middle fingers for acceleration/braking instead, but I guess it just depends on what you're used to.

In my opinion if you're using the left stick for steering and either the right stick or L2 and R2 for the accelerator and brake, you're pretty much maximising the potential of the controller. It gives you the ability to be both aggressive or gentle with more ease, and can be almost as smooth, and just as fast, as wheel users.

Oh yeah, and my steering sensitivity is set to 7 as well! :)

I use left stick steering, R2/L2 for gas/brake and X/square for shifting. Then I use L3 for lights and R3 for wipers.

L2 - Brake
R2 - Accelerate
X - Gear Up
Square - Gear Down
O - Handbrake
Triangle - Reverse
R1 - Flash Lights
L1 - Rear View
Click R3 - Horn

Click L3 - RA Menu
D-Pad - Up, down, left & right in RA Menu

Sensitivity - 0

Wipers pointless as they come on automatically.

i tried the R2/L2 for gaz/brake but i got cramp because i have too large hands for that tiny small controller
so i stayed on the analog left for steering, right for gaz/brake
R2/L2 for changing gears

R2/L2 for throttle/brakes but tend to use automatic trans but if I do go manual, I use the right stick as that thumb ain't doing anything else bar flash lights ;) try it, works nicely

Currently I use a G27 Wheel, but when i did use the DS3 back in GT5 I used R2&Square Button for Throttle and brakes, L1&R1 as gears - Don't really know why, but it does seem to work quite nicely ;)

L1 - Look Behind
L2 - Brake
L3 - Horn
Left Stick - Steering
R1 - Lights
R2 - Accelerator
R3 - Wipers
Right Stick - Look Left/Right

X - Gear Down
Square - Gear Up
O - Handbrake
Triangle - Reverse
Select - Change View

L1 - Look back
R1 - Nitrous (never used it)
L2 - Brake
R2 - Accel
Left stick - Steering
Right Stick Up - Gear down
Right Stick Down - Gear up
Right Stick left/right - Look left/right
D-Pad - RA Menu adjusts
Square - RA Menu
Triangle - Reverse
Circle - Handbrake
X - Headlights toggle high/low beam
Select - Change view

Having stop/go on the triggers means you can overlap their input which is great for MR cars in particular. Gear stick as Right Stick feels similar to a real life sequential box which makes me happy.

My settings on the DS3 is X for gas, square for braking, left analog stick for steering/headlights. I usually have controller sensitivity set to 0 but usually play around with it either at 3 or 4 to help steer better like in the seasonal events or the latest Ayrton Senna tribute events.

As a creature of habit I still use the x and square as the gas and brakes but a friend has his set up like @86Debris86 and for the best option to give you the throttle and braking control you want, this is the way to go I think, the right stick is just impossible to use on it's own if you like the whole "left foot braking" technique which is really useful in some MRs like Debris said.

L2 - brake
R2 - acc.
L1 -shift down (i think..)
R1 - **** up then.
X -brak (not used)
square -handbrake
Triangle - reverse
O - brake (not used)
Left stick - Steering
L3 - Lights (if this is the clicky part of the left stick, usually used when braking hard and turning..)

edit: seems I accedently used a bad word ;) It should say shiFt.

Default except, I invert L1><L2 and R1><R2. I find it easier to change gears using the L1/R1 than the triggers because of sudden accelerator input when pulling/squeezing R2 to gear up. However I do like L2/R2 for gear change on the DS2.

On a side note, anyone ever thought of gated thumbsticks? Or does that sound silly? I have this idea but I may be over thinking it.

Something like this.

L2 - Brake
R2 - Gas
Left Analog - Steering
Right analog up - Shift up
Right analog down - Shift down

Not sure of the turning sensitivity but it seems a bit high for me.

I have 40gb PS3 and still using sixaxis. I never used wheel systems since PS1. My settings like this:

Controller:SIXAXIS
Throttle: X button
Brake: Square button
Transmission: Automatic
Sensitivity: 7

With this setting I finished GT5 100% and got platinum trophy also I finished GT6 100% all events includes senna events and got platinum.

Here is a short video of senna brands hatch gold lap 1:06,982

Basically the same setup as mine.. only difference is, X is hand brake, O is shift up and triangle is ghost. I don't race online though, only time trials

You get so much smoother throttle control from the right stick. But i moved the brake to L2 because I find it much easier to use up there. Gear up/down R1/L1, R2 is look back, and X is hand brake, but im thinking of switching those 2 so i dont have to take my thumb off the throttle to e-brake.

Try moving the throttle to right stick down. It will move your thumb farther down and make the controller feel alot bigger.

Left stick for steering, L2R2 for gas/brake, square/x for gear, sensitivity 7.
Never used right stick for gas/brake because I can't gas and brake at the same time then - I do it sometimes for fast corners.

me too

X - Accelerate
Square - Brake
O - Handbrake
Triangle - Reverse

All from habit, find feathering Accelerator and Brakes easier like this.

Left Stick (L/R) - Steering
L3 - Horn
Right Stick (L/R) - Looking Left/Right
Right Stick (U/D) - Accelerate/Brake
R3 (Automatic) - Wipers
R3 (Manual) - Unused

I leave Accelerate/Brake incase my thumb hurts and I need a break. Wipers are purely habit.

Up (Automatic) - Unused
Up (Manual) - Wipers
Left - Steering Left
Down - Flash Lights
Right - Steering Right

Mostly habit with that setup too.

L1 - Look Behind
L2 (Automatic) - Reverse
L2 (Manual) - Downshift
R1 (Automatic) - Nitrous
R1 (Manual) - Upshift
R2 (Automatic) - Unused
R2 (Manual) - Nitrous

Im right handed and prefer to use my index finger to upshift as im more comfortable using it than the middle finger on R2. Nitrous swaps as its scarcely used. Downshift is L2 as it being lower, reminds me that its down, whereas R1 is up. Looking Behind is L1 in every racing game I have ever played, so is purely habit once more.

Select - Change View
Start - Pause Menu
PS Button - XMB Menu

No changes here.

In game settings.
TC - 1
ABS - 1
Steering Sensitivity - 7
SRF - Off
Everything Else - Off

Im more of the fast reactioned, very precise, type of driver.
