Well I guess we have to agree to disagree then...

I feel it is very important to attribute an action to a group if that group is known for such an action.

I will mention no one seemed to have a problem with the "emo" thread...

To simply say "each person you heard say that is lying" with no further explanation carries little weight or meaning. Similar to saying "the 6 darksinned people were more likely to have heart disease" wihtout specifying that there is a group trait responsible and not just some obvservation that I am trying to fob off.

That you disagree is unfortunately beside the point.

The AUP is quite clear on this (and I have quoted it), and by placing people in groups (particularly if they do not agree with 'your' grouping) is a fasttrack to arguments and disagreement.

Argue the point, don't attack the person. The term in question 'fan-boy' has just about zero positive aspects to it and is most commonly used as a term of derision and abuse.

If you unable or unwilling to see the difference between that and the 'emo' thread (or any other non-derogatory group description), then I strongly suggest you lay off posting for a while.

Please be aware this is not a point open for debate and/or discussion and the staff are in agreement over this matter.

Has anyone else noticed that the standard "Aston Martin Vanquish" in the used dealership has an interior (albeit a very simple one)? I can't but it to check of course, but you can quite clearly see a full dashboard through the windows?

Edit: Never mind, I've just noticed that all standard cars have this. Quite why then, they couldn't make an interior camera, is beyond me.

You could release 11 Ferrari's from the legendary 250 series alone and they would be better than 99% of the cars in game. Not to mention all the vintage Porsche and Lambos, Mercedes, Chevy, Ford, etc. that NEED to be in this game cockpit view or not.

Totally with you mate:tup:

One of the best things about 'the other game' is having 30+ Fezzas, 30+ porkers, a few koenigseggs and a whole other bunch of euro/US exotica new & old etc, etc....

I was really hoping I'd get to drive a good few of those in 'the real driving simulator' too.. But I guess we'll just have to settle for discovering all the ickle differences between a gazillion skylines, mx5's and lancers...

'Hardcore fans', take that as you will when you're done making excuses for all the things that didn't turn out as you expected.

Still buying it though lol

I just got the game.

Trust me people who complain about standard cars.

When you've played the game, you'll enjoy driving premium cars and forget everything about standard car.

Woah, now... I know that Ferrari is pretty awesome sauce and all, but you're in a pretty small minority on this. There is a game called Ferrari Challenge, and his new big brother, Supercar Challenge for you if this is all you need to be happy. Unfortunately though the physics are pretty good, they and the bot A.I. are different. :P

Edit: poo, I need to wake up. I just realized who he's speaking to. But still, gonna be all over those Standard cars soon.

I won't forget....there is a crap load of standards that I wanted to molest :indiff:

Not sure if anyone's suggested it, but maybe we could see addons released with like 20+ premium cars in, and maybe some new tracks and other features, plus all DLC released up to that point?

They could do it in say 12 months time, release it as DLC and in stores and then release a special edition that bundles the original + all patches + the addon. Other games have done this and it works well. Paid DLC is inevitable anyway I guess, but releasing major addons annually that include all that paid DLC would be something I'd probably buy.

They could also make premium versions of cars they had intended to make for this game originally.

I reckon they could do 2 or 3 addons while working on GT6, which will probably come out around 2015 or so, sooner or later depending on sales for GT5 I guess. Obviously they'll have to then focus on GT6 so they'd stop doing addons for GT5 at some point.

Just a thought/wishful thinking.

A clear warning was given in this thread in regard to comparisons with Forza and also the use of any derogatory terms to refer to other members.

Being 'smart' about it does little more than insult the staff's intelligence and test our patience to the extreme.

As a result Ya Pops is now on a two day holiday from GT Planet (and a holiday that if he attempts to get around will become a permanent one), and I hope that the rest of the members are now clearly aware that the staff are not 'messing' about when it comes to the enforcement of the AUP.

Some of you may feel this to be an extreme action to take, however more than clear warnings were given and zero tolerance means just that.

DLC has been discussed left and right netwide. We know we're getting at least some because of the special release downloads. Outside of that, we don't know. People have suggested wheels and interiors for Standard cars as DLC. Extra themes for the Course Maker. New cars and tracks, and replacements for blocks of Standards. But Kaz has been pretty well mum on it, except to say that he doesn't like the thought of nickel and yen-ning out extra content to us.

But, almost everything about GT5 has been a surprise, so we'll have to keep our ears to the net over the next few months. ;)

Wow, Ya Pops managed to get himself not only banned from here, but from the GT5 neogaf forum and gametrailers forum on the same day.

Err... don't you mean if a lot of us ask for pay DLC? We'll see, to be sure. I expect time to start flying by like it used to when we get our copies of GT5. :D

I keep watching the Standard car videos and thinking that for a good many of them, they do indeed look similar to... I can discuss Prologue, right?

I don't know about many of you, but one of the first things I'm going to do is snap some pics of Standards and see if they look as ugly as some of the shots blowing around the net. When I freeze these vids much of the time, the cars look stupendous enough to want to take a Polaroid. In motion they look just great, and while they may not reach the epic epicness of the Premiums, they look kind of epic to me.

You can check the levin pic on my thread some standard dont look too bad honestly, but some are just mehhhhh. Also in photomode car are cleaner than while you race. You'll see when you get the game.

This entire "standard" vs "Premium" concept will go down in history as THE worst idea ever for a racing game. Its just their pathetic attempt to try and cover the fact that the game is only 20% complete. They should have either left all the standard cars out of the game, or actually finished the game making them all "premium". Worst idea ever.

why bother with the discussion standard car are ok
maybe they dont look that pretty on replays, but come on while you are driving you cant notice the ugliness , just use the bumper cam, actually i think im wasting premium cars aswell , because i tried hard to race with cockpit cam but i feel faster with the bumper cam 💡

I don't really mind how they look so much. I would prefer them to look better but can live with them. The big problem I have is that I want a stable driving experience across all cars. This means I don't use cockpit view which is a real shame. The switch from cockpit view to bumper view when going from a premium car to a standard car is just too big a difference to allow me to drive at my best so I have decided to only use bumper. It's a shame as I really would like to use cockpit view but I'm not going to get the most out of the game from a driving point of view if I don't stick to one view.

I've never been a member of either of those sites.. Whoever he/they are, they just happen to share my user name.

I doubt that virtual beer'll wash away the taste of asskiss.

A lot of the standards look just as good as premiums, take the 62 Special for example. I had to do a double take take because the car looks damn good but yet its a standard. Both types are pretty even graphicly IMO. I came accross one car that looked like utter crap it was some 4 door concept. Looked straight out of GT4 with no hi rez, no joke. The problem isn't Premium Vs Standard. The issue is inconsistency accross the board. You can argue that some standards even look better then some premiums from what I've seen thus far.

I agree. The main trouble is the inconsistency among the standard cars. All my cars are standard (except for a kart), most of them look decent, still one looks horrible (the Hommell Berlinette R/S, whose textures seem to date from PS1 era). There's a thread about standard cars in the Photomode subforum, it gives a good idea of what you'd find.

They're all unacceptable by next-generation standards, regardless. Polyphony need to realise that they can't just dump a load of recycled assets into their flagship racing game and get away with it; surely the mediocre response the game received from critics makes them realise this.

After a few hours of playing, its no big deal at all. I'm using a Standard in B-spec as I type this. No harm no foul. Some look bad but others work well and look ok in HD just not in extreme close up.

I do disagree about not including them at all. I'm guessing you are not enjoying the game because of their existence? And there's no way they could have made 800 cars into premium with having some 200 car modelers. They had 40 last I checked.

Actually as I have brought up many times before there is a way... you get some project management involved who makes a decision that premiums are not practical for this round in their current form and makes some concessions so that a good looking result is possible without exceeding either time nor resources.

I think GT5 is just too ambitious for PS3 hardware and while I admire PDs ability to eak every last drop out of a system, I think even they have wrung all the blood from this stone and come up short. The result is not something that feels like it's amazing for the system it's on but rather something that feels like it's time to upgrade my PC so I can enjoy this properly... but it's not a PC.

I am not saying the game is ruined and unplayable, but I loved how GT4 had gone 1080i with no compromises... had GT4 been 1080i but with a lot of compromises I would not have been nearly as impressed... that's what happened with GT5.

GT went from showing "how it's done" to showing "why project management is the difference between a good experience and an impressively polished one"

All I have been driving is standards and maybe I'm easily pleased but my modded mini 1.3i '98 looks good to me. Wish I could body style it, but hell, the engine mods I can give it are keeping me more than happy.

I'm going to take my time with GT5. It's a massive game, and the design of it kind of forces the player to be part of a community to get the most from the game, which isn't a bad thing. It's quite a genius concept when you think about it.

Standards will hopefully be worked on over time with patches (there was a news article flying around hinting at that idea). I look forward to trying the premiums eventually, but I'm in no rush.

The game has undeniable character and if it's going to be supported long term as Kaz has hinted, I'm more than satisfied. Standards and premiums? The worst thing PD did was classify each car type. When I drive them, the classification concept doesn't enter my head.

I love my standard Mini. I love cars. We love cars! :D

For me a far bigger issue than looks is lack of cockpit... somehow I find the cockpit even better here than it was in GT5P (it may be because I am forcinng myself to clutch and I need the extra awareness the rear views provide to handle my new found clumsiness).

I tried driving in bumper cam mode since I only have premiums and it's just no good... I am not looking forward to my first standard and being stuck with bumper cam :(

I use the fully zoomed in view and find the cockpit view on premiums distracting so I really don't care. I'll probably pay more attention when I'm not trying to get through content.

I can understand why there are standard cars, but I cant understand the cars they have chosen to be standard. Eg, the Bugatti Veyron. I won one earlier in the GT World Championship.....And its standard? One of the coolest cars ever made, record breaking, gorgeous looking, yaddayaddayadda and they omitted it from the premium list. I really cant fathom it.

I didn't vote, because I don't think there should have been any non-premium cars.

IMO, there should only be premium type cars. And only put in cars that have actually raced on a track before. All cars should be able to be modified up to full race cars.

A Toyota Prius? Really? Despite it's claims Gran Turismo is a racing game, not a "driving" game. There aren't any beautiful country roads, or historic towns to "drive" through. Just tracks to race on. I don't want or need a bunch of grandma cars, unless I can drop a short block into it, and add a wide body kit. I would have been a lot happier if they had just given us 200 premium fully modifiable cars, and given us a real track editor, with time-of-day, and weather on all tracks. And why can't we generate race stages, why only circuits?

I think GT5 suffers from the Kazunori effect. What we got in GT5 is less of a full game, and just more of the same, with an incremental addition of some game elements. They didn't include drag racing, which I think could have been a nice addition.

GT5 falls pretty short in terms of todays racing games, with a pretty lack luster game, and terrible interface.

But what did we expect?

Gran Turismo is a quirky game, that lacks many of the components present in todays racing games. It's as if Kazunori didn't have a plan, except to improve the physics and model full interiors.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Gran Turismo, but I think Kazunori needs a game designer to lay the framework for the next installment, and make Gran Turismo a better game, a better racing game.
