"This second generation version of the Z3 will be officially introduced at the Paris Motor Show in late September, and is expected to be at dealerships as early as October or November. Measuring in slightly larger than the current Z3, the new Z4 will move up a notch to compete one-to-one with the likes of the upcoming SLK and Audi’s TT.

Sources tell us the new Z4 will be available this fall with a wide range of in-line six engines, with the fours added six to twelve months later. The powerful 343-hp M version will be added for the 2004 model year."

over priced? Probably, what do u expect. But buying a used one will probably be cheap. U can find some good z3's for under $20,000

that from what i can see, its very nice and even though i said no more impractible cars i may make an acception when it comes out lol

Like most new-to-be BMW series, it's not quite right. BMW was never as understated as Audi, nor as progressive as Alfa Romeo, but it used to have a nice, happy middleground: pleasing, but certainly distinctive. Chris Bangle (BMW head of design) is just not a good designer. He's been riding his [short-lived] success of the Fiat Coupe for way too long.

The new 745i? The original, pre-Bangle sketches were actually interesting. However, after he got his hands on it, it's the monstrosity we have today: slightly bloated, okay detailing, neat curves but nothing excessive...until you get to the disaster that is its trunk.

Now to the Z4. Same problem: the rear sucks, and the rest is plain uninteresting. The front end? Somewhere between a S2000 and the Z9 concept. The rest screams Miata/S2000...until you get to the bootlid. Just what is it with that tail-tip-thingy? And it's got that same overweight look as the new 7. (For more wonderful images: www.bmw2002.co.uk/news.htm. Warning: many images are computer generated. Good: M3 CSL and M1/M2. Bad: new 5-series. Worse: X7 pickup. So BMW, shopping at the Tokyo Auto Salon now, are we?)

Look, we all know BMW needed a makeover from the nearly stodgy affectation it's been slowly acquiring, but Bangle was the exact wrong person to do that. Look at Volvo: still a 3-box design but no longer boxy, still FWD (don't forget the 40-series with AWD & 300HP, arriving next year) but no longer stodgy, and quickly becoming so much more enjoyable to drive. Bangle is over-zealous and under-talented.

Sorry for the long post, but let me sum up with this: I signed all the petitions I could find so far (3) to boot Bangle from BMW. Great drives deserve great looks. A good design can be sensational, but sensational design does not mean a good design.

Okay, the trunk on the new 7 is without question the worst rear-end styling ever. But the rest of the car is styled so well (and I love iDrive) it almost makes up for it. BMW's GOT to be different in the age where all luxury cars look alike. And they are. I literally applaud Bangle, I think he's brilliant. Honest.

Can't wait for the new Five-Series.

Only BMW I haven't liked in a LONG time is the new 3-series compact. But even it's okay (but the C-Class coupe is a lot better).

Well, shoot, if that is what it's going to look like, I pretty much take back most of my previous post. It's miles better than:
www.thecarconnection.com/index.asp?article=4931&sid=178&n=158

The rear end is still a bit thick, and the front end about as bland as a beach ball, but certainly an improvement over the last images. I acutally liked the CS1 styling (well, most of it), and if this is where they're headed...it still needs work...some work.
