Forza 6 Launches With Thrustmaster Contest and Discounts

Today, for XBox One players in North America and Australia, the wait is over – Forza Motorsport 6 is on store shelves. Japan and Europe must wait until the 17th and 18th respectively, while those racers that sprung for the digital Ultimate Edition have been enjoying the game since last Thursday (see GTPlanet’s review here).

Along with the release, Turn 10 has revealed some interesting stats. Over one million players have already played the demo (available since September 1st), while a combined seven million unique players have joined the Forza fold on XBox One, split between Motorsport 5 and Horizon 2.

In celebration of Forza 6’s release, GTPlanet’s dedicated FM6 section has grown as well, sprouting sub-forums designed for specific aspects of the game. Whether you’ve got the game and want to join in the fun, snap some photos, or simply have questions about the game, you’ll find what you’re looking for in there.

Included in the aforementioned Ultimate Edition were the Car Pass (access to the first six months’ worth of DLC car packs, totalling 42 cars) and the VIP pack (five exclusive cars, doubled post-race payouts, exclusive in-game events). While the Ultimate Edition is still available for digital purchase, bundling both together with the game for a discount price, these two items are now available separately for those drivers unsure of taking the plunge.

Like the previous Forza titles, the Car Pass will be available indefinitely so players that join the party later, after the DLC has been revealed, can still enjoy a discount compared to buying each pack individually. The Car Pass lists for $29.99 USD, while VIP is ten dollars cheaper. The five VIP cars are the 1997 McLaren F1 GT, 2012 Aston Martin V12 Zagato, 2013 Ferrari 458 Speciale, 2013 Lamborghini Veneno, and 2016 Ford Shelby GT350R.

The launch day car pack, featuring ten cars plucked from the Fast & Furious franchise, has had the video above officially released today as well. Ranging from classic Escorts and Corvettes, to a certain 10-second car, the pack covers a wide range of rides that should be familiar to anyone that has watched any of the series over the past 14 years.

Certainly the most bizarre inclusion is the Terradyne Gurkha – Forza’s first Canadian vehicle – weighing in at over 16,500lbs and running a massive 7.3L turbodiesel. It should prove an interesting choice for Tag rooms online. The pack will retail for $9.99, and is free for any Deluxe or Ultimate Edition owners. We’ve already driven a few of them here at GTPlanet, so expect more on them soon.

On top of all this, Microsoft is running a contest at a selection of their brick-and-mortar retail locations in the US, Puerto Rico, and Canada. On the 26th and 27th of this month, these stores will have players lap the new Rio track in a 2015 Mustang GT in a Playseat and Thrustmaster setup. Whoever logs the fastest time – Microsoft doesn’t specify if that’s per store, per region, or simply overall – will win a prize pack from Microsoft and Thrustmaster.

In addition, a 25% discount will be available on the equipment that’s featured in this contest. Both the Playseat Forza Motorsport Racing Seat and Thrustmaster TX Racing Wheel Ferrari 458 Italia Edition retail for roughly $400 each, so there’s a few hundred dollars worth of savings for those players looking for a new setup.

As already mentioned, GTPlanet’s Forza Motorsport 6 section section now has sub-forums for things like tuning, Photomode, online racing, and general questions. Make sure to pop your head in to keep up to date on all things Forza-related.

Lastly, we mentioned videos in our review last week. Expect those, highlighting all sorts of aspects of the game, very soon!

    Why …
Why all most all the companies think only the money …
    Forza is like iPhone
New game every year basically the same…
(And DLC from first day with content from the game disc )

  2. BrunetPaquet

It’s being a great time spender while GT7 arrives.

I’m only gonna compare the game to Forza Motorsport 5.

Pretty much everything is better than in F5… EXCEPT the “wheel-of-fortune” event when leveling up, but even then it’s only my opinion. I’m eager to GT7 though, don’t get me wrong.

Isle of Man, if included in GT7 will be another great track for cruising along with Nurburgring, Special Stage Route 7 and Circuito De La Sierra.

Oh and sorry for not putting any accents on letters. Got a cheap keyboard…

  3. ImaRobot

That’s like saying “That’s Poop, this is crap. Poop is better though.” If both are bad, both are bad. You don’t commend one for being the slightest bit less bad.

  4. MrWaflz55

I think this is a great game, but it seems t10 has dropped to a new low of locking away a portion of the game disk on launch.

    “Yaaay day one dlc!”
    -said no one

    1. eran0004

You get what you pay for. If you want extra you’ll have to pay extra. Because that’s what it is: extra. It’s not part of the base game that’s locked away.

    2. MrWaflz55

Repaint the supra orange and profit. It’s essentially the same thing, a souped up challenger and a supra for 9.99

    3. SlipZtrEm

It’s not two cars for $10, it’s 10 cars for $10. While some can be sort of recreated with existing models in-game, half of them definitely can’t be.

    4. ImaRobot

None of these cars can be recreated visually, or performance wise, really. HP numbers can probably get close, but for the actual vehicle, they will share little with their actual counterparts.

    1. Tenacious D

Unfortunately, I wouldn’t know. I have a dead Official Forza wheel which was poo out of the box. I doubt I’m ever buying from anyone but Logitech ever again.

Playing the demo with the controller, all I could tell is that it was… different. But PD is behind… what? Offering tons of cars and loads of tracks? Day and night racing with transition? Weather with transition? Yeah, seems like someone is still behind even on the next generation hardware.

Forza does have its good points, which are great. Customization is excessive and T10 gives you a lot to adjust and modify. The Livery Editor is to die for. Any car can become a race car. The next gen graphics look sweet. Physics are (reportedly) detailed and simmie. But the game to destroy all other racers? No racing devs have closed up shop yet, and PD themselves are hiring fresh talent.

You now have a new BFF to snuggle instead of posting flamebait here. Supposedly. Just enjoy it.

    2. ImaRobot

I’m not exactly sure how you refuse to acknowledge just how good these features are that you’re putting down. Sure they aren’t dynamic, but so far its the only game that is 100% stable when using these features. I’ll take stability over just throwing things into a game to say “look at me, look what I have!”

That’s exactly why I can’t get into Pcars, as great as that game is. It having transitional weather/day cycles does nothing for me if I can’t even get a good game in.

Posting flamebait? He’s posting his opinion and his lack of interest in GT, now. You’re the one jumping on him about it with the flamebait, talking down a great game, just because he doesn’t like GT anymore. I wouldn’t even necessarily say it’s behind either. How could you say a game is ahead when the features it’s trying to push overload it’s own hardware and produce faults? A game will truely be ahead in that department when they get transitional effects while still upholding its frame rate 100%. No console game this gen has done that yet, and I await GT7 to see if this new generation can change some things.

    3. TeamCZRRacing

What, so just because GT6’s servers are unstable, his opinion becomes invalid? How about you stop poking holes in people’s arguments whenever they say they like something you don’t. If I like something, I have the right to that opinion, and I don’t like people trying to change it.

    4. ImaRobot

No one is talking a bout servers. I have no idea what you’re talking about.

You very well have the right to post your opinion, but you cant use the opinion argument as if I’m not just posting my opinion. That argument does not validate yours, while invalidating mine. Both are valid.

    5. ImaRobot

And either way, I’m posting how I feel about the subject, not telling him. That’s why I used words like “I’ll take” “Thats why I can’t get into.” clearly making it known that it’s my opinion, not saying this with a definitive as if it’s the only thing to go by. So that’s the very same thing that you’re saying he’s allowed to post, yet you’re putting mine down just because I’m disagreeing.

      Double standards.

    6. TeamCZRRacing

Wait, I just now remembered the numerous threads here on GTP about game issues with GT6, even though I’ve never had any myself. I assumed you were talking about the frankly terrible servers. So points to you for that.

I’m using that argument because, according to what I see (which may not be the whole picture), whenever someone posts something saying that something in GT is better than the equivalent in some other game, someone else always comes along and tries to tear their post apart and debunk every point in it. I’m not trying to say “you can’t post your opinion too,” I’m saying that people trying to shoot others down for simply having a differing opinion is wrong and it gets tiresome.

Granted, on rereading your comment, you don’t sound like you’re expressly trying to tear TenD’s post apart (not expressly, anyway), but still, why can’t one of us who likes GT simply post a positive opinion about it for once in our lives without someone coming along and dampening the mood by posting negativity? It’s a free forum, and yes, I guess you’re entitled to do it, but because of the sheer frequency of it, many of the people who still enjoy GT (myself and TenD, to name a couple) wind up feeling cornered and unwelcome. At times, it feels like we have two options: 1) lie about our opinions in order to stop the barrage; or 2) leave altogether. I try to be as honest as possible, so I’m leaning towards 2.

I’m just pointing out the wild imbalance in this community.

    7. ImaRobot

I don’t see nothing wrong with having a discussion about things you like or dislike, no matter what its about. I’m not going to get mad at people for posting an opinion negatively about something I enjoy, but I’ll definitely want to discuss with them. That’s exactly what I am doing here.

However, you do realize that you are on a thread about Forza, about people giving praise to it, but negative talk comes in about how GT is doing so much better. The very idea you seem to dislike, about not being able to say anything about something you like without someone negative coming in, is exactly what is happening with the reply that Tenacious did(somewhat, not entirely I admit.) The thing is, he wasn’t exactly coming along and posting a postive comment about GT, but more so got bothered by someones opinion of GT being not as good anymore, and decided to point out faults in Forza. Doing exactly to Forza, what you’re going on about people doing to GT.

The fact is, the sheer number of GT fans here far outnumber the Forza fans, or even the forza section. It’s almost always the other way around when you think of it. Forza being put down happens way more then the other way around.

I admit that I may come off as offputing, but I have never attacked him, more rather I’m just posting counter points. I have no problem discussing with him, as I’m sure he has no problem discussing either. I don’t mind heated discussions, but I understand that’s not to everyones liking.

    8. TeamCZRRacing

I don’t hang around the Forza sections much, so I can’t vouch for the Forza side of the equation. However, since I do frequent the GT sections, I can vouch for that as I do know what it’s like there. That’s why I took up for TenD and not Castrol.

    9. ImaRobot

I wasn’t talking about just the Forza section though, I was talking about the whole forum in general. There is a certain stigma, that everytime its even mentioned, even if its not used to compare anything, it gets downplayed. That’s why talk about it hardly leaves the Forza section. Being a forum based around a PlayStation game, you also get the “omg xbox sux” crowd. That’s not to say it doesn’t happen with people from Forza, but the amount is way lower, and that most likely has to do with the small community that is the Forza section.

More often then not, its GT players who bring up Forza before anyone with experience with Forza even get to the thread.

    10. Johnnypenso

@TeamCZR you and TenD are doing the same thing you decry in others. Turning, in this case, a Forza thread into a vs. thread. One guy posts a generic comment about PD being behind and he’s not sure about GT7, and TenD has to come along and tell everyone that although Forza has some good points it’s not, “the game to destroy all others”, which is not even close to what Castrol said, it’s just TenD exaggerating things beyond hyperbole as usual. He then has to make a snide remark about a BFF and labels a generic remark as “flamebait”, while he’s trolling someone for expressing an opinion.

You don’t need to lie about your opinions, nor do you need to leave altogether. How about just leaving people to their generic opinions and only responding when factual statements are made about game specifics?

  5. ubieca99

And we still receive the miserable Vision GT cars that PD is offering us. Come on PD, step up your game, you’re seriously falling behind.

    1. TeamCZRRacing

At least PD doesn’t do day-one DLC or force us to pay for what we do get. If there’s something ready to be included with the game at launch, I want it on the **** disc, so I don’t have to pay for it!

    2. TeamCZRRacing

Since when do you have to pay for paint chips? Generally speaking, if you want a paint chip, you buy the car using in-game money.

    3. Johnnypenso

Call me crazy but if I have a game with the option to purchase loads of content that I really want vs. a game with much less extra content , most of which I have no interest in, but it’s free, I’m going to choose extra content every time. I don’t have to buy it, but it’s there if I want it.

    4. TeamCZRRacing

@ImaRobot Since when did I say shady options were limited to T10? And in any case, weren’t the paint chips in the vanilla game anyway?

@Johnny Think of it like this: the trade-off of not getting any real cars is that you get a free ticket to see the concepts straight from the designers’ eyes. They’re not real cars, so they’re not bogged down by real regulations. The VGT cars are they types of cars designers would make if they had no limitations.

    5. SimTourist

Ahahaha, damn, the game has more premium cars than any game out there even without DLC and people still complain. Oh god.

    6. ImaRobot

You didn’t say that, you’re correct. You just insinuated it. Paint chips are in the vanilla game, and they still make you pay money for them for extra.

    7. SlipZtrEm

The DLC paint chips in GT5 (that I assume we’re talking about) weren’t unlockable in the game: they were unique to the DLC, and were one-use only.

    8. ImaRobot

In short, I’m just pointing out that you seem to have double standards concerning shady DLC tactics.

I don’t agree with Day One DLC, but I also Don’t agree with small money making techniques concerning items that should actually be free, as the effort put into making those things is so minimal. That, coupled with the limited (1) use of the item, just made for a ridiculous DLC.

    9. TeamCZRRacing

      @Slip That’s correct. It’s been a long time.

@Robot I don’t have double standards. To me, all DLC is BS. Nobody wants it, but we’re forced to suffer through it because all corporations want is our money. I’d rather have the “DLC” be unlockable in the game rather than have a significant chunk of the good stuff locked behind a paywall.

    10. ImaRobot

The way you made it seem is that you are praising one company for not doing something shady, yet the company itself also partakes in shady DLC Strategy.

DLC like cars, tracks, extra features, should never be free in my opinion. There are people hard at work to produce those, and I feel if the game is good enough then I’ll support it. That is, as long as its reasonably priced, which these car packs are.

I especially don’t mind Forza’s approach. They give out boatloads of free content, so if my support and my money is funding that free content, then I’m all for it.

    11. ImaRobot

Either way, the very idea you hate(locked behind paywall), is the very idea you’re making it seem like you support when you put up something like “Atleast PD doesn’t do so and so!” That’s why it looks like you have double standards.

    12. TeamCZRRacing

What I’m saying is that the way PD approached it isn’t as bad for the consumer. It’s a very small thing that they definitely don’t lord over you in order to get you to buy extra stuff. Do you understand now? All DLC is bad. It’s just that how PD handled it is slightly less bad.

    13. Johnnypenso

“All DLC is bad” “Nobody wants it”. Speak for yourself. The option to purchase new content is one of the best things about gaming in the last few years and goes a long way to extending the life of a game. If you don’t like it, you don’t have to buy it. Wait for the next game and it’ll all be there in the base price.

    14. ImaRobot

That is an extremely bad DLC method, just as bad as Day one DLC. To charge you for paint that can only be used one time? They also aren’t throwing this in your face, they are advertising it no different then what is going on here. You won’t be hearing about it with time passed.

I love DLC, it’s great, it brings new content to a game keeping it fresh. There are obvious bad cases( Paint chips, day one dlc) but for the most part, I welcome DLC.

    15. ImaRobot

That’s like saying “That’s Poop, this is crap. Poop is better though.” If both are bad, both are bad. You don’t commend one for being the slightest bit less bad.

I seem to have a horrible time realizing that I’m not actually writing on the right comment lol.

    16. Johnnypenso

Agreed, selling paint chips as DLC is not my favourite DLC. Having said that, it was a buck IIRC, and no one forced me to buy it, and my game was in no way affected negatively if I didn’t buy it. I don’t see the issue. The only time I would object to DLC, especially in a racing game, is if a dev starts selling an advantage. Better cars in a given category, more tuning upgrades, better tires, whatever. If that becomes DLC I would never buy that game if I ever intended to compete online. Short of that, the more the merrier.

    17. BrunetPaquet

@Johnnypenso You’ll hate VIP in Forza: It gives you 100% more base credits per racing events and access to exclusive events, car gifts from the devs and better chances at getting the top rewards when levelling up.

Now the last isn’t mentioned in the pack but hoo boy did I get 1,000,000 credits often. I’m only level 46-47 or something approximate and I’m almost at 10,000,000 credits already.
