The wait is nearly over, early access users have a mere 11 days left on the clock until the entirety of this year’s open world epic is available to them. For those without such a privilege, instead opting for the retail release, the wait is furthered an additional 4 days.
For those grinding their teeth, anxious to navigate the many twists and turns of the Australian Outback, the good news is the first opportunity to jump behind the wheel and sample the game won’t be nearly as long. It’s exactly what you’re thinking: the demo for Forza Horizon 3 is now available for Xbox One.
While today’s release was hinted at not long ago by British retailer GAME, the availability of the demo has been something of a hot topic. Causing quite a stir just hours ago, the demo was found to be listed on the Microsoft store page just days ago with availability at 8 PM Eastern as of yesterday. While the demo’s availability obviously hadn’t come to fruition at the suggested time, to say anticipation is at an all-time high would be quite an understatement.
Windows 10 users will quickly realize demo availability is non-existent on the PC. This is likely the result of the pending launch of Xbox Play Anywhere, coinciding with tomorrow’s release of ReCore. Play Anywhere-enabled titles allow players to purchase a digital game and play on both Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs at no additional cost.
The demo weighs in at a hefty 18.34 GB, and is available to download now. What are you waiting for? Get out there and tour the Outback; plan your routes and take in the sights, because come September 27th everything will be on the table.
Stay tuned to GTPlanet, as we’ve got exclusive news coming on the game later today.
UPDATE: Following the demo announcement, it was revealed that a PC demo of Forza Horizon 3 would be released sometime after the game’s availability on the 27th. In the meantime, players interested in Forza on PC are advised to try Forza Motorsport 6: Apex.

Yay, my car. Except I have a 260Z. ;)
Like it so far. Scenery is really nice. I went for this board on top of a sand bank, got some air, landed and the car died. Thought it was damage to start with. Took me a while to clock i’d run out of fuel. Chase cam there doesn’t seem to be a fuel gauge. I had to look at the dashboard. Putting the car back to no damage/wear and I could drive again with reduced power. Now being relatively new to the Xbox/Forza franchise. How do you refuel?? For future reference. Or is this a new thing? Although I haven’t run out of fuel on Horizon 2 yet.
I’m not even sure there is fuel wear in the Horizon series. If there is on H3, that’s news to me.
If this is true than I’m amazed. That’s how you do simcades.
So will there be petrol stations where you can fill up then?…of course if The Crew or GT5 had this feature they would charge you credits for it!!
I didn’t see any petrol stations. I filled up by starting the next event. But defo ran out of fuel. Just stick the damage/wear on and go for a long drive. I just went round smashing those boards and finding the point’s of interest. Think it took maybe half hr or 45 mins for the fuel to run out in the Holden Maloo.
That’s very interseting! I wasn’t aware of that. It’s all a bit odd though, because in FM6 you refuel by pitting. There’s no option to do that in this game.
Sampled it a bit today, loved it.
Amazing and definitely a step or even steps up from FH2 but dissapointed, and puzzled, that they have not added the “TV Style’ replay camera from FH1 and most other games. Drone cam is interesting but should go higher Also it seems the first car you can actually pick yourself seems to lock you to that car/series, apart from when the race chooses the car for you….maybe the demo resets when you restart and you can try the ‘Not the Ute’ cars next time……Very looking forward to my Ultimate disc pre-order now!
Yes that is the way the Forza demo’s work, progress is never saved so if you want to give all 4 cars you can select on the beach a try then you basically need to run through the demo 4 times. In the full version progress is saved of course. :)
Agreed that the demo looks absolutely AMAZING, cant wait for the full game either which will even be a lot better with the extra challenges, the autoshow, forzavista, expanding and upgrading festival sites and such. The demo is only the tip of the iceberg. ;)
@dualshockIf you are refering to set angles that games like GT on Forza Motorsport have then you are mistaken. Mistaken at least in that Forza Horizon 1 had them. None of the “Horizon” games have had your typical “TV” style replay cameras. I wish they did too! But according to Playground Games they don’t have them due to the Open World nature of the title. I don’t see why that on at least the set courses they couldn’t have them but I guess Playground knows more about this stuff then I do! But back to my point. The Original Forza Horizon had the exact same replay cameras (Driving views and then multiple angles that follow only your vehicle) as FH2 and now FH3… I wish it were different but it’s not. I love watching my replays! Now you can choose the angle that rotates around your car slowly and hit the “Camera” button for differing degrees of distance between the camera and the car. If you choose the furthest away from the car then it isn’t too bad for watching your replay and getting some of the other cars in the shot. I get it (not having set camera locations) on the massive open route races, but the races that have set laps (and are of a reasonable size) should be able to have set cameras. Hey… We should start a petition! LOL!
No…not mistaken, if you cycle through the camera options in both FH1 AND the 360 version of FH2 (I Know!) you will find the EXTRA camera called ‘Replay Cameras’ which does a more usual game style replay by switching cameras at random on it’s own – although no trackside cameras – also both of these games allow you, when on ‘Game Cameras’, to rotate etc. with the right stick. Another thing I miss is a dedicated ‘Look Back’ button which the 360 FH2 has (I know!). However I will say that, proper TV style cameras aside, Forza games have an excellent selection of cameras, much more than your usual console game (certainly PS games) and more like a PC game has.
I love my replays…So send me the petition sign KingK76!!
Fantastic looking game, very professionally done I must say! Playground games has out done themselves.
As expected, game looks freakin awesome. Day-Night-Rain, on and off-road, map is HUGE, pretty open too.
Don’t know I many cars are in the demo because I didn’t want to play too much to spoil the game for me. I got my taste, enough for me and it confirmed my pre-order on the marketplace.
I don’t see how racing game fans wouldn’t like this game.
How much cars available in demo version ?
About 8, including the cars that the game puts you in for certain races.
The photomode of this game is going to be insane. Coming from a GT fan.
Indeed, I was absolutely amazed by the awesome lighting, shading and reflections in this demo, looks so incredibly real!
Can’t wait for the full release and see how well it runs on a GTX 750Ti
18.3 GB!
