Photomode. It’s a standard feature simply expected in racing games these days; a clever addition that allows players to showcase their cars and photography skills, while also functioning as free advertising for the developers. With the current generation of consoles making video recording a priority, it looks like budding videographers and photographers alike will appreciate the latest tool Playground Games is adding to the Forza Horizon series: Drone Mode.
Speaking with MotorWorldHype, Creative Director Ralph Fulton went into more detail:
“At any point during gameplay, and this is both in solo and also in multiplayer, you can activate Drone Mode and actually leave your car. You can basically control a drone, as it flies around and films whatever’s happening. So you can imagine immediately the possibilities: I’m thinking of the guys who make videos, but it’s also going to be great for photographers, and it’s going to work across modes. You can actually move at real speed with this thing, so you can keep up with cars in multiplayer.”
Fulton stresses the diversity that Australia provides as a setting early on in the video, which should please racers. With driving games putting ever-increasing amounts of details into surroundings, Drone Mode should be able to show that off in an exciting new way. Hopefully, it also puts an end to the rather low ceiling most racing games saddle their Photomodes with.
Combined with the Horizon Blueprint, the custom event creator mode of the game, players should be able to create just about any scenario they can dream of, and then capture it.
A feature introduced in last year’s Forza Motorsport 6 is also set for expansion: players will have multiple choices for their avatar in the game. FM6 introduced a helmeted female option, and while Fulton confirms there will be no customization of drivers in the game, there are over a dozen presets for players to pick to represent them behind the wheel.
There’s also a guest appearance by Turn 10’s Dan Greenawalt near the end of the video, with a long, cryptic response about what the future holds for the Forza franchise as a whole. Something tells us we’ll have to wait a little bit longer for that, but given the typical release schedule, we wouldn’t be surprised if it’s related to a certain astrological sign (or old European Ford model).

Great idea.
Reminds me of the seagull mode in the OpFlashpoint / ArmA series.
That’s a pretty good feature
This could be REALLY useful for videos, if its done right. The different camera angles in F6 replays are alright, but Drone Mode would be great for getting the shot that you actually want, not just something close.
LMAO @ Dan Greenwallet quote : “really really hardcore simulation”
I sure hope for all the dignity in that dude that he’s talking about Project CARS or something. Forza 6 you say? Puh-lease!!!! As long as the devs play their game on Twitch twice a week with controllers in chase cam I don’t even want to hear the words Forza and simulation in one sentence!
Having that said, FH3 looks damn good though, I already pre-ordered it.
I’m really looking forward to the added customization options!
Can we hav real life-ish drone control with the analog sticks?
Where’s the selfie stick out the window mode?
It got banned in Australia already.
@Mr I was going to say to stick in in the muffler but read the comment from @Obelisk, #kudostoAustralia for banning that crap
Please don’t ban Horizon 3 when it comes out, though.
They’re actually not banned nationwide in Australia, but IIRC they got banned at multiple events.
