The latest UK game sales chart results are in, and the big racing game winner will likely come as a surprise to no one. Released worldwide only a week ago, Forza Horizon 4 has taken the third spot on the chart.
With this, FH4 dethrones its 2016 predecessor by a slight margin. That’s rather poetic when you consider its prime setting of the United Kingdom itself. As the title of our review reads; the king comes home.
Of note here is that the chart only takes into account physical sales. Digital versions of FH4 offer a few unique perks over their disc counterparts, such as Xbox Play Anywhere. Combine that with the steady increase in the digital share of titles across the gaming landscape, and it certainly seems like FH4 is off to a very strong start. It’s already clocked over 1.3 million players since launch, too.
Xbox UK director Harvey Eagle had this to say of the occasion:
“We’re thrilled that Forza Horizon 4 has been so well received by gamers across the UK. “Set in beautiful, historic Britain and made by British studio Playground Games, Forza Horizon 4 is the fastest-ever selling game of the Forza Horizon series in the UK according to the latest GfK data. We’re also seeing a huge uplift in Xbox Game Pass subscriptions and engagement. These achievements are a testament to the craft and ambition of the latest release of the Forza franchise, the world’s biggest racing IP.”
While it may not have topped the charts (yet?), it’s impressive to see FH4 in the top three. Finishing ahead of Super Mario Party and Spider-Man is no easy feat, yet the open world racer pulled it off.
Moving down the list reveals a strong week for racing games in the UK. Project CARS 2 sits in ninth after reappearing on the charts last week for the first time this year. In 12th we come across the second Forza title on the chart, Motorsport 7. It re-enters the charts thanks to a console bundle. In the face of the changes coming its way, this may not be the last time we see the 2017 sim on the charts this year.
Two places down in 14th reveals another familiar face in F1 2018. Four racing games, all in the Top 20 is certainly something for the community to be proud of. What’s more is this is only the beginning for Forza Horizon 4. We’ve said it several times before and this only adds weight to it: FH4 is the best in the series to date.
With the Route Creator due later this month, we expect the game’s appeal to grow even more. We can’t wait to see how things turn out from here.
