We told you over the weekend how F1 2018 and Forza Horizon 4 were looking to take home awards from Gamescom 2018. Now with the show underway, we finally know the winners.
In the category of “Best Racing Game”, Forza Horizon 4 took the crown of best in show. The judges had their work cut out for them: it beat out both F1 2018 and Sonic Team Racing.
While the Sonic racer was probably the odd game out, F1 2018 had a real shot to win. As potentially the most realistic of the franchise thus far, it’s on track to be an awesome game. Plus it looks and sounds wonderful too.
While we’re sure the team at Codemasters is a little disappointed, we’re happy for Playground Games.
In the category of “Best Console Game Microsoft Xbox One”, FH4 didn’t make the cut, ultimately losing out to Ori and the Will of the Wisps.
Despite losing “Best Racing Game”, F1 2018 had two more chances to win awards. Up for both “Best Simulation” and “Best Sports Games”, it came up a bit short.
The honors for “Best Simulation” went to Farming Simulation 19 while FIFA 19 took the top spot for the sports title. We’re sure they’re both fine titles, but it’s a bit sad to see F1 2018 miss out. We thought for sure it had a shot at winning the sim category.
Regardless, both games are making a strong showing at Gamescom.
If you want to check out F1 2018 for yourself, it’s only a few days away from release. It’ll hit PS4, Xbox One, and PC on August 24. Our review will be here very shortly, too…
The wait for FH4 is a bit longer, but we’re still only about six weeks away from launch. It’ll head to Xbox One and PC via the Microsoft Store on October 2.
You can check out the partial list of winners right here. In the meantime stay tuned to GTPlanet for all the updates on both titles.
