The latest Forza Horizon 5 Series has rolled into its second week, with a continuing emphasis on cars that are not quite retro enough for a large set of players to not feel very ancient indeed.
This Series celebrates cars from the 1990s, with Series 39 bearing the “Back to the 90s” name (after a sub-editor’s red cross). If that doesn’t make you feel old, the original Ford Mustang launched closer to the start of the 1990s than the end of the decade is to the present day.
It’s almost all about the 1990s’ machines this Series then, with the majority of events featuring cars from 1990-1999. There’s also four new-to-game cars all from the same decade which you’ll earn for scoring 20pt within each season.
There’s a debut for the suspected end-game feature of Horizon Backstage too. You can buy (in-game) or win passes to exchange for rare and exclusive cars in a special “Backstage” area, with players also able to vote on which cars ought to appear on the list.

Series 39: Back to the 90s
There’s a full 300 points available across the Series 39 playlist, with 75 points in each season.
As Hide & Seek now looks to be a permanent addition, there’s an increased reliance on multiplayer modes, so be aware that there’s a minimum of 12pt each week that requires Xbox Live Core, as well as the 14pt each week from the DLC locations.
It’s another four-car series too, with the four new vehicles appearing as season rewards each week. That means that the two overall Series rewards are not new to the game but they are both Playlist-exclusives. Score 80pt to pick up the Mercedes-Benz 500E again, and 160pt for the GMC Typhoon.
Series 39 Autumn/Storm Season Rewards
There’s an overall change in Series 39 which sees a switch to only one car available each week. For this week that’s the new Mitsubishi FTO at 20pt. Reaching 40pt gifts you a Horizon Backstage Pass.
Summer will run until 1430UTC on Thursday October 24, with Series 39 running a further two weeks until the same time on Thursday November 7.
Series 39 Autumn Playlist: Forzathon Events
The Lamborghini Diablo is the latest performance car from the 1990s to feature in the themed Forzathon Weekly Challenge this month. Seven Daily Challenges — one new event each day at 1430 UTC — are also available for a point each.
One challenge requires online multiplayer access, while another requires the combination “Lucky Escape” Skill — a Drift Skill and a Near Miss Skill. You may need to explore some of the peaks at the volcano to complete Saturday’s challenge, so use something capable of climbing steeply on loose surfaces.

Series 39 Autumn Playlist: Season Events
You’ll need Xbox Live Core (unless you play on PC) to access one event this week: The Trial. This permanent fixture requires that you work with a team of players against Unbeatable AI, this week in A Class (701-800PI) cars from the 1990s and in any of the Rally categories.
Another trio of player-created challenges from the EventLab await you. Atlantica is for A Class (701-800PI) Modern Sports Cars, Horizon Wave Circuit for Retro Supercars of the same performance level, and it’s S1 Class (801-900PI) Track Toys for Autodromo Tierra Prospera.
The Seasonal Championships — three-race events against Highly Skilled AI — offer up some important cars as prizes this week.
