Forza Horizon 5 Season Change: Now That’s What I Call the 90s

The third week of the latest Forza Horizon 5 Series has begun, bringing a fresh set of challenges all themed around an automotive decade that not too many players will be happy to realize is at least a quarter of a century old…

Yes, Series 39 celebrates the 1990s, with events centering on cars from the decade and featuring some names that hint at the era. You’ll also be awarded up to four new-to-game cars from the same decade, with each coming up at 20pt within each season.

Horizon Backstage makes its debut in the game this Series too. This feature allows you to vote for which rare cars should appear available in a special area of the game to buy with passes that you can win or buy (for Forzathon Points).

Table of Contents

Series 39: Back to the 90s

This is a full-size, 300-point series playlist, evenly spread to 75 points for each season.

There’s quite a bit now that’s beyond those who just play the base game, with 14pt each week from the DLC locations (not required for 100% completion) and at least 12pt each week of multiplayer action that requires Xbox Live Core. That actually expands to 17pt this week too.

Additionlly there’s only four new cars available, all as individual season rewards. The two overall Series rewards are not new to the game but are both Playlist-exclusives. Hitting 80pts will gift you the Mercedes-Benz 500E again, and 160pt nets the GMC Typhoon.

Series 39 Winter/Dry Season Rewards

There’s an end-game look to the Series now, with just one car available each week — which is the newly added car at 20pt. This week that’s the Aston Martin Lagonda, while reaching 40pt awards you a Horizon Backstage Pass.

Summer will run until 1430UTC on Thursday October 31, with Series 39 running for one more week until the same time on Thursday November 7 — to be replaced with Series 40.

Series 39 Winter Playlist: Forzathon Events

The Honda Civic Type R ’97 is the latest performance car from the 1990s to feature in the themed Forzathon Weekly Challenge this month. Seven Daily Challenges — one new event each day at 1430 UTC — are also available for a point each.

Only two challenges are more complex. The Barrel Roll Skill can be tricky, but dropping off the side of any Danger Sign ramp at speed around halfway up should suffice. You’ll need to drive between two NPC cars at once — effectively hitting a Near Miss skill from each — to score the Threading the Needle skill.
