Forza Motorsport 6 Garage: Is This The End?

2015-5-Pepsi-Max-Crew-FG-X-Falcon

Are we nearing the end of the road with FM6 car list updates? The jury is still out on that question. While Turn 10’s own website alluded to this week being a “wind down” for the reveals, notable Forza community member Badned (think the Forza equivalent of our wind-whispering insider amar212) has said “we are not finished yet!”

Let’s take a look then. As announced earlier, V8 Supercars are well-represented with all five manufacturers having at least one car available. Other additions include another 1981 Ford Capri turbo racer (first revealed just over one month ago), the remaining Horizon 2 Lancia lineup (two Deltas and the 037), as well as the 2010 Clio RS and 1997 Maserati Ghibli Cup – two cars that have not been seen in the series since the XBox 360 days. Ford’s second Raptor finally gets an official spot in the garage, while the oddest addition is without a doubt the Challenger Hellcat… Battletoads Edition?!

2015-1-Red-Bull-Racing-VF Commodore

If this is the final reveal, players will be disappointed to know the complete list has a glaring omission: RUF. Could this be due to EA’s Porsche licensing, particularly the DLC pack coming to the game at some point in 2016? Perhaps some light will be shed on that in the future, but it means Motorsport 5 and Horizon 2 both will have something the newer game doesn’t, at launch at any rate. If it isn’t the final reveal, well, you know you’ll hear about it here!

I feel tempted as well. I have not bought a new gen console as of yet. GT and Forza were the only reasons I ever bought consoles. I honestly doubt it’s going to be a PS4 though.

  1. apexpredator100

I guess you can’t mention Forza without bringing up GT in the comments section of any Forza article.

  2. TJC_69

The Forza series looks like it’s going strong. Taking some GT fans with it, and who can blame people for switching?

Meanwhile at PD – A Buggati VGT teaser appears, on our last gen game, but we won’t give you a release date or ETA. Oh, and the course maker for our last gen game that’s approaching its 2 year release .. It’s probably still taking “longer than we expected”… But you’ll just have to guess.

I’m sorry, but it has to be said that PD are a joke. So glad that I switched to current gen. I think everyone should show PD how unacceptable their slowness and communicative failings are now, and just ditch all current and future PD products.

Let them explain less than 100k sales to the SCE boardroom. PD will always treat fans like muppets, and we deserve more for our money.

    1. Benny44

So a company is a joke and you hate them for taking longer than you expect to release/announce a game? While I’m no expert on Japanese culture, I have a few Japanese friends and I can say that their culture is vastly different from ours. You want them to announce everything they’re doing, but I’m guessing that is simply not their way. We live in a culture that is very much ‘get it now’, ‘show me what I want now’. From the little that I know, it seems they are more patient than we are, as a whole at least. Forza, in a few days, will have almost released 2 games since the last GT was released (2 weeks apart). Say what you will, but getting games out quicker is not always better. In fact, it is usually worse. Forza 6 looks awesome and will no doubt be fun, but it remains to be seen if it is the best it can be

    2. TJC_69

Where did I say I hated them? This culture is called the ’21st Century’, the era where we don’t have to buy gaming magazines once a month to read up on gaming news. The era where customer relations and feedback are important for having a successful business etc. Lack of communication has ‘always’ been PDs way, and it’s an outdated way of engaging their consumers. This is 2015 and not 1995.

Is it demanding to want to know where the rest of GT6 is, almost 2 years after its missing feature was promised to be ‘cutting it close’ to be in the game at launch, but has since not materialised? No. Is it demanding to want GT7 out asap? Yes.

Point being that PD feels silence is a successful business model, along with allusive answers given in interviews that say absolutely nothing to the consumer. Whether that’s just Japanese culture or just mediocre communication skills, is up for the fanbase to decide. Either way, it can be agreed that PD are far too slow in completing promised project ideas. And furthermore, with their disdain for communication to the fanbase equals alot of unhappy GT players. Many of which have had enough of constantly waiting for tidbits of unclear information.

Sales of 6, and I project GT7 also, will back up this falling trend for PD.

    3. Benny44

Well, you are speaking for some GT fans, but certainly not all. I understand being frustrated with the course maker. Their biggest mistake was saying anything about it. I am not, and have never been, that excited for a course maker. Everyone is praising Turn 10 for what they haven’t done yet. The only thing they have done is release half a game then stick you with having to buy DLC if you want to drive any remotely cool cars. And stripped out features that made FM4 great. Maybe 6 will be awesome, but I still don’t like their policy of all the DLC. Praise them all you want, but I’ll wait and see if it is good before I judge based solely on advertising

    4. SimTourist

Forza 5 and Horizon 2 gave us way more free cars than Gt5 or 6 ever did, and they were interesting cars, not some half-baked student project vehicles.

    5. Johnnypenso

@Benny44, you don’t agree with T10’s DLC policy, that’s fine, just don’t buy it. All the cars will be in the next game for free anyway. Personally I’d rather have the option to buy the DLC this time around, rather than as in GT and have no options at all and the only DLC you get is crap you don’t really care about, for the most part. And as SimTourist points out, the free content alone in Forza 5 and Horizon 2 is vastly superior to all the DLC of GT5 or GT6 anyway.

  3. baja_j

It’s Forza keeping this forum alive or what lol Well I just want to say thanks PD for helping me make the switch to pc and discovering AC. Too bad Forza looks promising, but anyway, I’m very content now :-)

    1. Mickeman

I doubt there will actually be a new Bugatti in GT. I am guessing Kaz is consulting with Bugatti on how to keep clientele while taking 15-30 years between releases of a new product.

  4. rocketcaron

Guys guys guys… when GT7 comes out, it will probably outsell Forza 6:1. So if you think that PD feel the need to show their hand/feed you with news you are mislead.

    1. Johnnypenso

If we could be on here I’d take that bet hands down. No doubt GT will sell well and outsell Forza, in large part because of the much larger install base, but the real challenge is, can they hit their pre-GT6 sales levels of 10+ million?

    2. Magic Ayrton

It’s that kind of complacent attitude that will indeed be their end. I hate arrogance whether it be from a person or a company.

    3. rocketcaron

Magic Ayrton, I’m not sure if you are saying that I am arrogant but if so, rest assured that I was not. I was just exposing a probability. I’ve been playing FM games since the beginning and never actually played GT6.

    4. AAR_CobraJet

GT7 exists in imagination only. There is no proof that work is being concentrated on it, and those who get this “vibe” that they know when it’s coming out will only be setting themselves up for a let-down. For crying out loud, there hasn’t even been a logo “reveal”. Forza’s not just firing warning shots, they’re going for the kill.

    1. HKS racer

It’s not an inslut to anyone, they are just doing things differently and people seems to apreciate a car list heavily focused on race cars, I’m one of them.

To each his own I guess.

    2. FrzGT

Well, a good thing as in PD has to consider to up their game. No content but a bunch of VGT’s isnt healthy for racing game competition.

  5. Jtuner

I’m not trying to sound like a downer or belittle anyone’s comments here but the problem is, like someone said gtplanet going back to gtplanet, its the lack of info from PD about future updates or news about gt7. As we all know gt7 has been in development for some time now, so why is it we still know nothing about it? Forza 6 isn’t even out yet and we already know about tracks and car lists. Project cars has been out for some time and we have already received nurmerous updates and dlc. Gt6? Still no track customisation, no more news on future updates, the only thing we hear about is the never ending seasonal which three quarters of us are no longer interested in. So as every other developer releases info for their fans, you just hear crickets from pd.

    1. Hastatus

It’s interesting how many people think silence is always a bad thing: and even ‘death’ for some people here! Yes silence is bad for marketing purposes. Some companies are smarter than focussing on marketing though: if you announce your release date too early, then other rival companies who care more about profits and quantity than quality can end up using your date against you, especially in a niche game category. They can also use your car lists, game features, etc as ideas for their own work. There is a good reason that many successful companies outside of entertainment have secrets. PD doesn’t have to say anything about GT to reasonable patient people because we know they are working on it, it will be a PS4 exclusive, and the longer it takes, the more work is put into it and the better it is likely to be. We also know that they will want to earn some money eventually and so either Sony is run by idiots or the bosses have been shown enough of what GT7 will be for predicted revenues to justify the current development schedule and lack of advertising. Advertising is a double-edged sword…the Japanese prefer single-edged swords. 8)

    2. Tenacious D

To add to Hastatus’ great post, people seem to forget that a year out from release, we know almost nothing about the next Forza. With F2, 3 and 4, especially F3, T10 was yanking people around so much, some of the fanbase was worried they had been handed the PGR franchise to develop and a new Forza wasn’t coming that cycle. The only think we knew a year ago was that Forza 6 was going to be the best racing game evar. As usual. ;P After getting involved in RaceRoom, I have a feeling that Forza 6 will seem like a great car modding and painting game. There could be some surprising satisfaction under the hood in the racing department, but this remains to be seen. Still, I guess I’m going to pull the trigger on that XBone racing rig…

I know some of the GT Planet folk dislike hearing this, but GT6 is old. The PS3 is old, the tech PD are using to develop it is by necessity outdated… just look at Forza 5. Even with the sometimes overblown color scheme, the game looks glorious and has some very advanced features. Drive Club, the same. Project CARS, even better, and Forza 6 is showing some improved next gen muscle many fans wanted to see.

I still like GT6, but compared to what’s out there, the best you can say about it is it’s a nice improvement over GT5, lack of Course Maker aside. The racing, features, the graphics… everything is better on the new consoles and PC. This makes me – and a few million other GT fans who didn’t jump in with the last Gran Turismo – hungry for a next generation move by Polyphony Digital. We want them to focus their efforts on GT7, and it’s pretty clear that’s what they’re doing. It’s probably what they wanted to do rather than make GT6. And until that teaser finally slaps the intranets, we probably will know what we know now about it, almost zilch.

GT7 is probably a year off or so from release. There are games to be played in the meantime, really good games. It will come in due time, and it will rock.

    3. Master Weasel

While silence can be a good thing when used at the right time, it CAN be double-edged sword. Every other major racing title like NFS, Forza, Project CARS, Driveclub have already made their home on the newest consoles. And Assesto Corsa will join them next year. Meanwhile, GT’s latest game is still on a last-gen console and hardly any word on GT7. So people are wondering when is PD going to make their move to the current gen like everyone else has. Furthermore, look at the comments in these Forza articles. Some are considering making a switch to Xbox One and Forza. If people on a Gran Turismo fan site are saying this, I wouldn’t be surprised if more people outside of GTP feel this way. Plus, PD isn’t exactly instilling confidence into their fans when they have them wait over a year and a half for the big course maker, with no updates on what’s going on with it. With that being said, I think people have been “reasonably patient” with PD. And a longer wait for a game does not gurantee a better game.

PD can take 20 years to make GT7 for all I care. I have no plans to get it. But silence and leaving your fans in the dark is not always the answer, and just like advertising, that CAN be used against you by competition. Competition who are already providing people with what they want now, while PD sits on the sidelines doing who knows what. They run the risk of losing relevancy, because by the time GT7 DOES come out, there will be those who have already spent their money elsewhere and aren’t going to fork out more cash to buy a PS4 for a game by a company who they have doubts about now.

@TD: Two words. Track record. T10, ever since Forza’s inception, has consistently released a title every two years. It’s probably why people “forget” that no news is reported on the next Forza a year after the last release. They have confidence that T10 will release games on that two year schedule and they continue to do so. GT, on the other hand, has always been haphazard when it comes to releases. Wondering when the next GT game is coming is always a big mystery, and thanks to the fiasco with GT5, it’s become a tiresome one.

    4. Tenacious D

@Master Weasel: dire predictions concerning GT7 are a dime a dozen around here. And mostly they impress the poster and fellow doubters. Supposedly the five year wait for a questionable GT5 was going to doom that game to lackluster sales, and yet it may well have reached the 11 million sales mark.

On paper, Forza 5 is a stellar game, but it hasn’t sold all that much better than Forza 1, a, hand a lot of people, like me who bought all the previous games, haven’t taken kindly to what Turn 10 turned out and voted no sale. Sure, some bought F5 and an XBone to play it on, and some that proprietary wheel, and some more are most likely going to jump in on what they see as the proper next gen Forza – and this is a surprise? Both the XB and Forza were bound to sell in some numbers.

Guess what? PS4 is handily winning this generation console war. The sales of the other racers aren’t setting the world on fire either, and I don’t expect Assetto Corsa to fare much better. All protestations and declarations of greener more frequent race tracks to the contrary, Playstation fans want one racing game to appear on this console. And we all know what it is.

    5. Johnnypenso

“On paper, Forza 5 is a stellar game, but it hasn’t sold all that much better than Forza 1”
Pure bollocks. Forza 1 sold just over a million copies. Forza 5 is/was the fastest selling racing game in XBox history, outselling Forza 1 within 2 months of release, handily, and that was 18 months ago. 1.3 million units in 2 months. And that’s on a brand new console that released at the same time as the game.

  6. TomBrady

I hope so because maybe then this website will finally go back to being GTPlanet instead of whatever the hell Slipstrem has somehow been allowed to turn it into.

    1. Famine

Actually that’ll be what Jordan and I are turning it into. Slip is a writer and only writes what he’s asked to write by me and Jordan.

GTPlanet’s readership enjoys more than just one title on one platform – as you can tell with even a cursory glance at the forums for Forza Motorsport, Project CARS, Driveclub, Assetto Corsa and so on and so forth – though the nature of the title that has brought them here generally means that there is more of a console focus rather than PC gaming. The news section reflects that.

We’re still GTPlanet – as you can see, more than half of the news posts on the first page are related to Gran Turismo (along with two Spotlights and the Playstation Experience post) – but we’re keeping the people who like our site informed on the things they like so they don’t have to go anywhere else to get their information.

Don’t worry though if having to pick through the 35% of posts that aren’t about Gran Turismo to get to the Gran Turismo news is tiresome. Jordan is constantly working to improve the site and an update to the news section to make it easier is in the works.

    2. Johnnypenso

If GTP stuck exclusively to the GT series it would be pretty dead around here. There’s very little GT news at this point and little discussion going on in any of the GT forums. I, for one, and I think I speak for all my friends here at GTP, really appreciate the widening focus on racing and driving games. Keep up the the good work fellas.

    3. Tenacious D

JohnnyP is right. With the apparent focus of PD’s efforts on the top secret GT for PS4, as to be expected, this place would flounder without some activity besides whining about Gran Turismo and Kaz’s “disdain for us mere mortals.” I’d rather be reading about GT developments, but… a site needs traffic and active members, so Jordan’s gotta do what a site owner’s gotta do.

Anyhow, late for the universe as usual. ;P

  7. Benny44

Wow, everyone is going crazy over this game and telling about GTs doom. Maybe wait and see if it is as good as advertised first, then wait for GT7 to make a fair comparison. Or, continue on the hype wagon. Good to get excited about the game but when people say ‘GT is dead’, maybe just wait to see what GT will be like on PS4

  8. Psychopulse

I’m seriously considering getting the Xbox One over the PlayStation 4… I would still want to wait for GT7 so that a fair comparison can be made, but as it currently stands, Forza wins. Period. All this awesomeness I’m missing out on is really making me reconsider why I’m helplessly waiting for GT7 in the first place. It better be an epic comeback, or else, I’m done with GT and PS too for that matter. Hats off Microsoft! Respect!

    1. Magic Ayrton

While I seriously agree with you.. Not sure if GT7 still won’t have the upper hand when it comes to realism. It’s hard to capture I know but even Forza’s once brilliant audio annoys me (vroom vroom) We need something different.. exhaust pops and crackles etc.. it’s the little things that make the biggest difference.. Handling in GT7 will be better too I would imagine.

This does make me want Forza 6 though. Still haven’t decided on which console yet..

  9. Benny44

I am suspecting PD will give a release date for GT7 right around the time T10 releases FM6. Or give us the track maker

    1. Magic Ayrton

It will be something like this: “We have made a course maker available to you in update (insert number) but it will not be the full scale version as (probably) found in GT7” .. taking the mick they are.. most frustrating series ever.

  10. ScotteDawg

Those first 10 cars on the list need to be in GT6, along with the HSV GTS, the XB Falcon GT and the Liqui Moly Capri turbo!
I don’t care if we have to pay for it either – no Australian would care!
I suppose though that licencing would be an issue for GT6 so, with any luck, they might show up in GT7…
What Turn 10 does should not have any bearing on GranTurismo or PD.

  11. ghostrider135

I think this piece of news alone shows that its an end to the GT franchise, PD are really on the back foot in regards of console racers, Might have to invest in an Xbox to get a half decent racing experience, Something PD have failed to deliver since GT4.

    1. BrunetPaquet

Sorry for double post… Forza has a fun side. GT6 is all about chasing the bunny all the time sometimes with penalties for mere love taps on the others’ cars when the AI are never penalized.

When Forza’s AI or Drivatars go into cut-track areas they also get slowed down as much as the player.

    2. Benny44

I’m not trying to be argumentative here, but that is truly an ignorant comment. Not just you, but a lot of fans on here. Saying ‘GT is dead’ because of what Forza is doing is ridiculous. Forza has released 2 games on current generation consoles, PD has released none. Zero. Nada. The other thing is….we do not know what this game is like. It is NOT RELEASED yet. It definitely looks good, but so do a lot of games before they are released. We live in an age of media hype over a game can make us truly believe it’s going to be amazing before we even try it (star wars battlefront).
I loved FM4, it’s actually one of my all time favorites, so I’m not hating on the Forza franchise. Will it be better than GT6? Well, it better be since it is on far newer hardware and released 2years after. Maybe give GT7 a chance before proclaiming it’s doom a year before it’s released.

    3. Magic Ayrton

The very fact that GT7 hasn’t even been mentioned let alone over hyped means that it will seriously kick A**e or perhaps not.. indeed, who knows.
It would be courteous of PD to tell their fans what is going on though..
So naturally, people are going to believe it’s dead in the water.

    4. FrzGT

Also its not just Forza 6 that matters. There are like, ALL. Driveclub, NFS, PCars, etc.

PD just travelling and probably didnt even care about their games anymore.

    1. BrunetPaquet

GT6 FTL. I’ll be back when GT6’s track editor comes out or if not, when GT7 comes out. Go ahead, tell me “goodbye” and “good riddance”. Like I’d care!

I’ve got Forza, Assetto Corsa, Project Cars, Driveclub. GT6 is lucky to be a digital download or I’d have sold it.
