Forza Motorsport 6 Garage: Touring Car Craziness

67-Rotek-Racing-S3-Saloon

To paraphrase Dr. Ian Malcolm, “now eventually you do plan to have race cars in your, in your racing game, right?”. Forza 5’s stable was heavily biased towards road cars, but with each weekly Garage reveal – last week’s Zakspeed Caprivintage McLarens the week before, or even the entire Formula E grid – the sixth installment of the series is branching out into all manner of racing disciplines. This week follows the theme, with the inclusion of three different touring cars, as well as continues to re-introduce cars last seen in 2011’s Forza Motorsport 4, brought up to current-generation quality levels.

80-Speedworks-Motorsport-Avensis

The S3 Saloon up top is the #67 car of Rotek Racing. Somewhat surprisingly, its driver Robb Holland is the first American to ever complete an entire season in the BTCC. With a steep learning curve ahead of him, Holland nonetheless managed to earn the littlest Audi sedan some points during the season. Even more surprising, there’s a racing Avensis! Toyota’s big sedan has three teams representing it in FM6, with the #80 Speedworks Motorsport car representing them above. Players will surely get a thrill threading the big-winged, hood-vented, side-exit-exhaust-spewing version of grandma’s Toyota around a wet Brands Hatch come September.

In addition to the two cars above, T10 announced the Civic WTCC, in both #2 Castrol and #5 Zengo Motorsport guise. Here’s the entire 39-car list:

  • 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo
  • 1965 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe

Forza 6 looks tempting, but… lordy, $900-plus to “jump into” The ONE! just to play one game?

    $349 – The ONE!
    $400 – a wheel
    $99 – F6 Ultimate… why not?
    $60 – year of LIVE!

I did this before with Forza 2, but F6 is supposedly is a serious Forza. Still, that’s a lot of pennies just to start over, and Forza 4 is still plenty good. And darn if I didn’t just plunk down $170 on RaceRoom! Then again, F4 is going to become a zombie one of these days as MS kills off the 360. I dunno… have a month to decide.

    1. BrunetPaquet

With XboxOne being backwards compatible which was announced at this year’s E3, I doubt Forza 4 will die anytime soon at all.

I’m planning to get it. They choose voted-for games to be included every month, and I think Forza 4 will be an instant add even without people asking for it: After all, It’s one of Microsoft’s flagship games.

Google it if you don’t believe me, you’ll see it’s confirmed. Cheers.

    2. CAMAROBOY69

Backward compatibility is already here on the xbox one if you are a preview program member. I already own at least 6-8 bc games. Anyone an be a preview program member. So right now, you could be playing some of the bc games.

    3. Johnnypenso

It’ll be $900 for GT7 as well if you don’t already have a compatible wheel, so the barriers to entry will be the same.

    4. SlipZtrEm

Actually, GT7 would cost even more: system is more expensive, and PS+ would be needed, surely. Seeing as how the online servers are still active for FM2 and FM3 – and taking into account the backwards compatibility already mentioned – I doubt FM4’s support will be yanked any time soon.

    5. Tenacious D

To the above two members, there is a difference. GT7 will be worth it. ;-)

I love Gran Turismo, but I only like the MS clone, as wonderful as some aspects are. And I care not for the XBox exclusive library other than Forza. Love, love, LOVE the PS4 library! Can hardly wait to explore the galaxy in No Man’s Sky or see Drake in action again, not to mention Ratchet & Clank in next gen glory. And that’s only the cast!

    6. SimTourist

Well, you already kinda own GT7, 90% of the content is gonna be carried over from PS2/3. I don’t know if 10% of the new content is worth $900, but what do I know.

    7. Johnnypenso

@TenD, which console and gaming roster is better is subjective and obviously millions of people will disagree with you. Regardless the price of entry is comparable on either system and with GT7 existing only as a theory at this point, with the release of FM6, the XBone will have a 2-0 lead in flagship driving simulators. Add in that you would have at least 2 years more playtime on Forza on the next gen for the same price and it looks a lot more attractive.

    8. Tenacious D

@JohnnyP, your two years of playtime would be true if I had any inclination to get Forza 5, which I didn’t. Also keep in mind what I said about my love of the Microsoft library: I don’t. After owning my 360 Leet since 2007 – which only died twice, knock wood – the only games I have for it are Forza 2, 3 and 4. I’ll likely get the Tales Of Vesperia game at some point, since MS in its wisdom made it exclusive, and maybe a few others, but that’s dependent on how lost I get in the PS4 library, which is shaping up to be a thing of beauty. But as for “two flagship simulators,” there are three times as many Forza fans who folded their arms and waited on F6, and so far, they sound enthusia about it. If you aren’t aware of the countless grouching and “don’t buy F5” posts around the webs, well, they’re there.

And as for those millions of disagree’ers, like I or SONY cares. They can have their Halo and GEARS!, I’ll take all those other glorious games on the better system. Which is winning the console war handily I might add.

I’ll have to add that RaceRoom has just about gobbled up all the attention that Assetto Corsa and P CARS has wanted from me. But I must say that even though it’s a dandy, if vexing racer – that perfect racer still eludes us, doesn’t it? – I do hanker after T10’s marvelous modification system and a Livery Editor that’s running in 1080p. I might have to sit on $950 bucks this fall…

    9. Johnnypenso

Thanks for confirming that everything is subjective. By they way, “If you aren’t aware of the countless grouching and “don’t buy F5″ posts around the webs, well, they’re there.”…could also apply to GT6 as well.

    10. Tenacious D

“Everything is subjective.” Well, I suppose you could say that “subjectively” the world is more in harmony with my preferences, because last gen the PS3 outsold the 360, the PS3 game library outsold the 360 library…

“Don’t buy GT6.” Not according to Amazon reviews. Now I do have to amend my post, I was looking at the GOTY Edition reviews which were pretty harsh. Mostly because very little of the DLC was included, and they really hated the microtransactions in the game. But it sounds like MS learned their lesson and F6 is devoid of that. Going to the regular F5 page, the reviews were better but still heavily caveated. But we’ll see. The GT6 page was about as mixed, but it was more along the lines of “Good game, just too similar to the previous one” “More evolutionary than revolutionary.”

For what it’s worth, the combined 4 and 5 Star percentages for both games were

      Forza 5: 63
      GT6: 74

But like I say, Forza 6 is a new ballgame so we’ll see how it plays out, even if I don’t jump in.

    11. Johnnypenso

Thanks again for confirming that it’s subjective and for confirming there is just as much dislike for GT6 as for FM5. And for what has to be the hundredth time, sales =/= good game or good reviews or replayability or longevity or any of the things that are really important to gamers.

    12. BrunetPaquet

I don’t care who started it and who will end it… there should be some rule enforcing no dispute on news articles…

“He won’t stop till he gets his net cookies and milk. ;D” That’s just calling for trouble… *sigh*

    13. Johnnypenso

No one is swearing, no one is being abusive, no one is calling anyone names. This is the very definition of reasonable discussion between adults. And best of all, no one is forcing you to read it.

    14. BrunetPaquet

In before more BS comes in, This conversation’s over before inflammatory comments start. Cheers. Didn’t mean to annoy you guys.

    15. Johnnypenso

You assume too much. No one is annoyed, no one is hot tempered. It would be better for you to simply read what is written and not assume the writer is raging and upset unless he/she actually says that they are raging and upset.

    16. BrunetPaquet

True. Cheers. I may have tourettes, autism and ADHD but I’m not gonna use it as a shield. I clearly went dumb.

  2. Blood*Specter

They have really released some very nice cars. And more than a few of them in the footsteps of Gran Turismo. Only I assume these versions of GT’s old standby’s are up to next generation graphic standards. And not the sketchy look ghost of Gran Turismo past that GT players get to covert around in. Why PD…..why?

Very nice overall, although I still despise EA for their use of Porsche. When that deal is up I want all the remaining sim race car game vendors to grab a piece of it and BTCH slap EA for being tools all these years. Nice job Turn 10…..sweet.

  3. FosterG

I must say that the Forza series is getting better after a step back in Forza5 (for understandable reasons). The GT series is on a different cycle and appears to be falling further behind due in part to having to contend with two Forza games and the PD mindset. Can PD, will PD make a shift? That is the question. I have played GT since Prologue (lots of fun) but have not really fired it (GT)up in months. Project Cars is keeping me busy right now, but the car selection there is not to my liking (maybe it will improve), but it is just a more immersive experience for me, especially now that I have a wheel. I certainly hope the GT series makes a big comeback, but the competition is really stiff, hope Kaz recognizes this.

  4. dualshock

A lot of people seem to be really wowed by the FM6 garage and say they are gonna change console etc…..I wonder if they realise that most of it is in FM5 and FH2 anyway so they can have it right now and should of – I wont say changed but embraced – Xbox into their lives to join their PlayStation (and vice versa) long ago like I did . Also I have Limited or Collectors editions of the seven Forza games that had them (FM1 didn’t have one) and am really annoyed that so far the LE version of this is only available as a download and I will pre-order only the best available disc version and get the DLC on release.

    1. SimTourist

Some people don’t want to pay for DLC. Combined FM5/FH2 have 428 cars in total including DLC, Forza 6 has 450+ at launch, a lot of people will see it as a better overall package.

    2. BrunetPaquet

One thing I’m looking the most forward is online leagues. Specifically Collisions-Turned-Off-Leagues if they add any.

Gonna start making friends with non-cursing people and I’ll run private rooms with ’em and their friends which I’d invite in on their requests…

It’s gonna be awesome. This and my alter-ego livery that I can transfer from FM5/FH2. These cute big kitty eyes… yep.

  5. Ryowatanbe201

Every morning i get up and check GTP, then i remember theres no update on GT6 or news on GT7 then i get over it.

    1. TJC_69

You have to go back 16 , ( Not a typo ) , news items for any news on it at all . And even then it’s just a seasonal update . GT6 is officially dead now . RIP Gran Turismo .

    2. TJC_69

@SVPSkins , PD will resurrect it at xmas time with a seasonal or two i’m sure . Most are more interested in current gen news thesedays .

    3. TJC_69

What are you expecting @SVPSkins ? CM ? Spec 2.0 ? Few more VGTs ? One out of the 3 is coming there man

    4. Johnnypenso

Didn’t PD announce a couple of months ago that there were no major updates coming or content, beyond that already announced?

    5. BrunetPaquet

GT6 to me is just a seasonal events and cruising game at this point. Got the platinum and all that.

(I hoarded kart until I had 100 cars to avoid the long car grind then I sold them back. To each their own way. I don’t care if anyone thinks I don’t deserve it, I’m not gonna lose sleep over it.)

I’ve still about 1,200 cars to collect and I don’t like reward cars so I sell ’em out. EVEN if it’s a 20,000,000 car (Go ahead, call me an idiot, I’m not gonna care.) because I like to do it myself.

Those Forza Veteran rewards where having more cars gives out credits and forza hub levels awarding cars? *I avoid ’em. At least for 6. At least I know I won’t be starting with the equivalent of a Class F car from Forza 4 like a Honda Fit. They give choices. I’m guessing it’ll be a class-C car like in Forza 5… I might be wrong or not. We’ll see. But there’ll be a couple of choices.

(*By that I mean I’ll delete the cars from in my garage, even if Forza doesn’t allow selling cars anymore since Forza Motorsport 5 but only getting rid of ’em. Gonna start with whatever choice they give me)

  6. TheCracker

As a none XBox One/PS4 owner, but potential customer, Forza 6 is lining up to switch this long time Playstation/Gran Turismo fan. Hoping for some GT7 news soon.

    1. pete2783

I’m thinking along similar lines although I don’t particularly want either at the moment… all I really want is some GT6 news so give me something to look forward to! That said, I’d prefer to replace my PS3 with a PS4 at some point but whenever I log into GTP to check for news about the course maker… I see news about Forza… and I’ve got to say it appears to have the cars/features more aligned to what I’m interested in. The argument for the xbone grows everyday.

    1. SimTourist

What legitimately good tracks does GT have on Forza anymore? Lastgen GT had it beat for sure, but this gen T10 seems to be going balls deep into making a good real track roster. From memory the only track from GT I’d really like to see in Forza is Willow Springs. But then again they haven’t revealed all the tracks yet, so it might pop up.

    2. SimTourist

I’ve counted a total of 17 real world tracks in GT6.
Forza 6 has 18 real world tracks already announced, the remaining 4 are most likely real world tracks as well.

    3. TheCrazySwede

Forza still lacks Japanese tracks. Otherwise, they have a pretty nice track roster. I like the original maps they had made in the past. Hopefully we’ll get more of those.

  7. BrunetPaquet

Forza Motorsport 6… Once September 1st arrives it’s an instant buy. Ultimate Edition. Costs less than buying everything separately. Sure, it’s a crazy sounding price but they’re all discounted in this bundle.

I’ve played Forza Motorsport 5 and it was good, Forza Horizon 2 is amazing and with the new features I’m sure Forza Motorsport 6 will be incredible.

Liveries and Decal Sets being transferrable from both previous installments on toppa that?

PD better add a livery editor to GT7 and add what’s missing in GT6 or it’ll be left in the dust by its competitors. Miles and miles behind.

I forbid any argument wars from starting on this post. I’ll still play GT6 from while to while just for the fun of cruising and collecting cars (Hint, seasonal events.) so saying “Good Riddance” or “Bye!” is useless. I’m still gonna be here.

  8. Ben Rogue

This is starting to look better every day. If GT7 Fails to make me happy (very likely considering PD’s last few attempts) I might just have to but an XBox One just for Forza

    1. Stumps_GTI

Yes….I’m really on the fence at this time, new game coming Sept 1st and is it cross-platform, ie, it will be available on PS4 and XBone. :( I NEED to make a decision…..

    2. letdown427

Totally agree, there’s so many cars on these lists that you know PD will never include as it takes them long enough just adding newly released cars, let alone the huge backlog of poorly modeled standards and adding in historic cars they’ve missed.

With MGS being cross platform, that only leaves Uncharted 4 encouraging me to get a PS4…

  9. Sharpie

I got xbox one and fm6 i also got ps3 and gt6 :) thing i dont like about forza is online mode everything else is very good

  10. jake2013guy

Right. PD needs to release a proper car list with a good variety of cars like this or Forza 6 is going to be the game to get.

  11. adam46

My concern is the fact that the ‘TC1’ spec WTCC Honda’s would theoretically be a good few seconds faster than BTCC cars.

  12. pasigiri

    Dear Turn10,

If you add full support for your Forza 4 wheel endorsed Fanatec CSR, I will gladly give you my money for an XBone and FM6.

    1. Whitefalcon63

I’d say. Is PD listening? Consumers are spoilt for choice now so if they want our money they need to give us what we want.

    2. Stumps_GTI

Exactly….And with a game (non-racing) due on Sept 1st, here I am waiting to buy a NEW PS4/Game combo…..Thing is, the non racing game is also coming to XBone. :(
I would dearly LOVE some kind of news before then from PD regarding GT7, cause if it does NOT meet or BEAT expectations……I’ll be getting the XBone. (thumbs up) :)
