The Nurburgring GP Course has just been confirmed for Gran Turismo 5 in a German press release! All three configurations of the track (Nordschleife, GP, and the full VLN Circuit) will be available. Better yet, we’ve got beautiful new screenshots of the new circuit, showing a lot of trackside details have been included and updated. We first picked up on the possibility of the circuit coming to GT5 when its grandstands were visible in this GT PSP trailer, and fortunately it looks like that turned out to be an actual clue. Keep reading for the translated press release and new images. Thanks to Stefan1904 for the tip!

I love all the spectators and fans camped out around the Nordschleife. It’s just like the real thing!
Brilliant… More excited about the combination of the Nordschleife and gp circuit rather than the gp circuit itself though.
Brilliant bit of news. Hopefully we’ll get Spa francochamps aswell.
Awww… Someone is so not happy. I apologize for the evil things that I have done at “all news” update. But honestly I just mean what I wrote. Nothing more or less. Something just need to improve.
Look what I’ve found on YT!!!!

It’s start at 5:21
A link to the original press release would have been nice for German speakers.
I find myself yet again crossing my fingers that this isn’t anywhere near the finished track/rendering engine.
Whenever the in-game time isn’t dusk or dawn, its painfully obvious how undetailed and “flat” everything is. High-rez textures are not the same as details. Forget the trees – what about the stuff that’s right next to the track, the stuff you WILL see while you’re racing?
The track-side grass looks like single-textured flat planes. The barriers are still all nasty – they allot thousands of polys to distant buildings but can’t spare the minimum 20 polygons needed for 3D armco. But those have GOT to be stand-in graphics…right?
Even having to stare at single-poly single-texture barriers constantly won’t be too bad, as long as the *actual track* is detailed enough.
Look at nord_005_wa; the sun isn’t low in the sky, so there’s no shader effects on the track lighting up the bumps. Despite the very sharp shadow cast by the WRC car, the track looks washed out, like a very overcast day – the rendering engine does nothing to depict the variations in the surface. The tire marks are recycled and don’t give you real info about what’s in front of you. Many of the visual cues used to determine braking points will be lost completely at certain times of the day.
So…this version of GT5 still kinda sucks. Trees can stay paper cut-outs for all I care, because I won’t be driving on top of them.
I hope this is still an ancient build, one that still has several SPUs on the backburner waiting for more advanced shaders to get implemented.
Fingers crossed. So hard.
@Sam_NY
Even better! Can’t wait to take an Audi R8 V10 in there and strive for better lap times.
@ralph89
yea I had some doubts about the Honda idea and thought about the ford. It makes more sense since the Big white blur on the back looked like the engine bay of the ford. Thanks for the correction.
@viejaloca- Actually, with the extension of the GP circuit, it will now be about 14.5 miles.
Sofaking AMAZING! 12 MILES!? Yaaay! Now I can take a long drive in the full Nurburgring course whenever I get a new car! ( In GT4, I would always drive around the green hell for :30 to test drive my new cars or to take a break from racing)!
That are really good news, Light. What do you want to see? If you would take the time to read the text, you should know, that this demo is available in May/ June at the 24h-event.
Are you a fucking XBOX-fanboy or why are you bashing at all news?
Someone, everyone… grab your cam and show us some real good news!!!
I hope they put up the demo on PSN
sorry i meant to say backlights
In the second picture of the Nissans, all three of them seem to have different designs. Maybe we could customize the cars in high detail! For example, under the headlights of the yellow car it says “YellowHat”, under the first black car it says “Motul” and under the second black car it says “Zenan”.
Same pictures with big resolution here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/playstationblog/
I FREAKING OUT, IT JUST WOW!!!
it look like Nordschleife got a big face-lift hehe :D
Looking realistic, yet there will be sites like Gametrailers & Gamespot who will give it an 8 at most.
I could easily see this game turning out bad :( If they cut half of the tracks and half of the cars in the game, they would’ve been done in the first three-and-a-half years or so, leaving the other year-and-a-half to work on scenery (which need drastic improvement). Just sayin’.
Wow! simply stunning screenshots. I hope my PS3 can run the game with such detail! :)
When can we see some GT5 Nurburgring vids?
Would be great if the caravans and stuff were only there for races and practice it was just green grass.
Ok.. not great but would add to the realism.
Is it not televised at all?
@caasimun_18 There is a place in Germany Called Nurburg. Thats where I would go to see a 24hr Nurburgring race.
You are welcome.
Six of the pics can now be found on the Flicker page of the EU PlayStation.Blog in Ultra-HD: http://www.flickr.com/photos/playstationblogeurope
Real news are real, and interesting (not like GTAcademy that no one cares about).
finally a bit of news, another great circuit and only makes sense to me,having all the nuburgring layouts
Wow, I started giggling considering how detailed this game is, the shot with the the Suzuki and the detail in the background makes the game really come alive. Awesome job PD, of course, can not wait for this game.
Know what was PD saying about day and night on every track… : )
@casimun – I’m watching it on German TV/SPORT1 right now. Online is http://www.sport1.de
I don’t know, if today’s practice can be watched online, but 19hrs of the race will be aired :-)
omg this is amazing as ever!!!!!!! the graphics are amazing and they are suited nicely with the lighting and everything!!!!! best track(s) ever!!!!!! can’t wait!!!!
online…if possible!!
does anyone know where i can watch the 24hr nurburgring race??? please tell me asap because it starts today!!!
Look at the Fans!!!!
Finally some new info… looks great.
@ GTracerRens
New track, crowd shots and out of course detail AND new cars?
Let’s not expect too much from PD at one go eh, lol?
Very nice pictures! But still no new cars to spot here…
Woow. great pictures and great news :D i can´t wait to drive around all the versions of the track. I hope the KI / AI is better than before, beacuse at the last video of “mimaximax” i think the AI isn´t that slow, because look @ min. ( 1:55 to 2:15 ) you´ll see how the driver overtakes another car, while the other car try´s to push aside the driver in the motul red car. I think this shows that the AI is improved a bit, hope so!
ok..thanks… didn’t know about the castle
Yes, it’s the Nürburg (Burg german word for castle). If you test drive your car one day on the Nürburgring, you should visit the Nürburg as well. It’s a great region with nice nature. You can rent a house near the track, which I did last month, and do some trips to Köln, Luxemburg and other cities near by.
@iCyCo: Yes, that is the Nürburg.
@iCyCo
Yes of course, its the Nürburg, which gave the Nürburgring its name.
@Niko,
While your sitting there nit-picking at the track detail and how the trees look, I’ll be driving round the track and paying attention to driving round the ring and not giving the trees a moments notice, probably because they’ll just be a blur while driving at speed.
In the pic with all the tents, is that a castle on then montain in the background?
This should be Tokyo R246 Nooooooooooooooo
Cars=PS3/Trees=PS2 look 7.screen.Cars very nice!But the problems in Track,medicore.5 years….
I wonder if those caravans will be available for racing… If not, it would really worth to wait another couple of years
@ajaferreira – Who cares about a tiny detail which will only bee seen for a fraction of a second
in replay ? Agree with phosphor112, some people obviously never will be satisfied, gosh !
Nice :-) look forward to 24 hour / Day / Night / Changing weather
@GlobeKIDD
No, it can not be a Honda HSV-010. The hood shape is not the same and the front splitter is different.
But could be possible to see this car. The Japan SuperGT 500 is licensed.
I think it’s funny people are complaining about the “blockyness” of the crowd. LOL come on guys. Will you ever be happy? Not only are these guys no where near the track, but they are behind a fence that you SHOULDNT BE LOOKING AT! lol… seriously now.
The last screen is the best. Obviously, no one ever had doubts we won’t see all the Nurburgring track variations in the game. I personally like the GP track as well. It’s a very technical course.
Nice surprise if you wish. Looking good.
Man those shots look real! Havent been this excited about a game since grand theft auto 4!
Ah yes, the hype machine begins.
WOW! This game might take me all the way to PS4! i.e. I’ll be playing this for years!! I already have a bunch of cars I want to drive on those courses to compare which is faster. E.g. M3 versus C63 versus Lexus IS-F. Let’s see if the magazines are right.
I now pray hard for dynamic weather AND day/night cyles! Though they don’t necessarily have to be together, it would be mind blowing if that was possible!!! :-)))
Great stuff and crossing fingers that Spa Francorchamps will make it too…
SPA is THE ultimate circuit.
Did you notice the left tire of the McLaren, on the fourth picture? I hope this isn’t the last version of GT5, or else we are all waiting for a draft of Forza 3… Shouldn’t the tires dynamics count on a real driving simulation?!?
never notices the two rear view mirrors in the McLaren before… nice detail
@gt-pro-stylez – I really don’t care, if the crowd’s animated. It just has to be there and make some noise ! Wait and see, this will be mindblowing. IT ALWAYS WAS MY GREATEST WISH TO HAVE LOTS OF TENTS AND SPECTATORS AROUND THE RING ! THANK YOU PD !!
This is so awesome.. This track is going to be so bomb
The roadside environment looks amazing! This is going to make the feeling so immersive!
As much as i like these shots of the newer cars.. I would like to see PD start to release some HD shots of the OLDER CLASSICS like pre-2000 era cars…
Hmm… makes me wonder if the crowds will be dynamic. Possibly have a small amount of spectators during time-trials, but championship events come with the whole kit and caboodle!!!
@ColinZeal
The track is beautifully designed in FM3, I don’t know how you can think that.
Its nice to see some more realistic ‘gritty’ track side assets (all the campervans etc) instead of vast areas of grass. But its still annoying that its so low poly. Those trees still look terrible and the parked cars and campers looks quite poor from the air. I guess when driving it wont be so noticeable.
I’m sure with such a huge Mercedes influence / tie in with GT5 having this track would have been pretty much a given.
@GlobeKIDD
That’s a Polyphony Ford GT Concept.
Between now and E3, they can release some news for us please !!! why wait?? they can save the 3D announcement for then, as well as the release day OF COURSE! ;)
that should keep everyone happy, and make up for lost time!
Did anyone notice that in the picture with the overhead view that between the McLaren and the HKS Evo there appears to be what looks a lot like two Honda HSV-010 GT’s? You really have to be picky in looking at the lines of the car and decal position, but from what I can get out of it, those are Honda’s.
Jesus wept….I must buy tissues for E3!!!
OOOOOMMMMFFFGGGGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH !!!
is amazing , AWESOME ,unbelievable !!!
finaly A GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD NEWS !!
im SOOOOOO happy ;) !!!
yip yip yip yip yip !!
I hope they include the function to save game progress so I can actually drive the entire 24 hr race without having to leave the ps3 on for couple/several days. Never liked B-spec in GT4.
Our jaws are going to drop at E3 this year! mark my words!
WOW, look at the grass behind the McLaren’s roof in picture 4, oh my days it’s photorealistic!
I’m…so…happy!
Ah, my favorite track of all time!
The track rocks in “Need for Speed: Shift” and sucks on “Forza 3” – Can´t wait to see what GT5 can do… I expect amazement!
system error, actual new news present, system error, world could be flat, system error, the sky could fall, system error %90 + 6 moths = %90…
“All three configurations of the track”
Niiiiiiccccceeeee!
that makes me happy
Beautiful! Well, except for the four polygon trees in the second to last shot ;)
I wonder if you’ll actually be able to race 24h (with the option to save of course) with a real time day / night and changing weather effects? Ever since playing Le Mans 24 on the Dreamcast so many years ago, I’ve been itching to do that on Nurburgring.
Why is PD treating us so unfairly? Sure, people who go to race race get to try it, and most of them probably don’t have PS3’s, but us FANS, who have PS3’s, don’t even get to try one lousy track!? I’m pretty ticked off (as you can see :P ).
This is awesome, can’t wait to replicate the BMW M3 GTR run on the full VLN course.
finally….THE KING IS BACK
ONLY ON PS3
@CeeJay: yeah but next month will be huge :)
FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Actual real NEWS! Yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
Ladies and gentlemen unite in this day of happiness
I SEE MA FANS….I CAN SEE MY FANS..AHHHHHH!!!! I HEAR THEM SCREAMING FOR ME…AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! AM CRYING….WTF!! THIS HAS MADE MY DAY…THANKS JORDAN AND PD AND KY…LOVE U ALL!!!
This is one of the better tidbits Ive heard pre-E3. I wonder if Kaz has a hobby or tech product he has been waiting to come out…and looks at the message board for it..and sees the CEO of the company saying…”we can release it whenever we want” ….and he is getting more and more impatient as he is dying for its release. Things that make you go hmmmmmm…
Anyway….the screenshots look great and I agree with everyone that the rest of the versions of the Ring will be a great inclusion to the game. I always used to see the GP circuit in the backdrop of GT4 and wish there was a cheat I could use to get on that track…ha!
Amazing!!!!
OMG! OMG!! OMG!!! It’s sooo beautiful, it made me cry!
and the bugatti Veyron??????
Thank you.
Oh my..new news! Thanks!
OMG!!!
This the news we were waiting for and finnaly we have got it!!
FINALLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!
2 beatnik : pgr1 had it first but Gt5 LOOKS WAY BETTER nice job really can’t wait for this Game !
I believe you were able to drive the GP track then go onto the full Nordschleife in GTR Evo as well.
just WOW. the detail is just incrediable!!!
This just has to be my most anticipated game of all time!!!
Pierre gib Gas!
Now it’s up.
The picture of the WRC Suzuki Rally car and Black Mask GT-R is missing.
Well this might be one of the 20 ” locations ” and we have three circuits for it. Nice!
Also this looks a much later build than anything we have seen so far, looks like the tyres are deforming a bit too on the pic of the F1 clipping the curb.
Did you see those campers cars?! So boxy… XD
And the mountains still have sharp edges. T_T
So I’m assuming you’ll be able to drive around the GP circuit and then head out onto the Nordschleife just as they do in the 24 hour race? If so then I’m sure that’s a first for any racing game. Good times!
I know a lot of people don’t care too much about the Grand Prix course, but this is a GREAT pickup for the Gran Turismo series. I always tended to feel forced to race all 12+ miles of the Nordschleife instead of just the Grand Prix circuit. I even added in my blog about if the GP course should be added. The key reason is that you could race the Nürburgring without feeling like you have to only do the Nordschleife. It’s a big plus for Gran Turismo 5.
As for how it looks… love! PD have outdone themselves (and maybe have read my blog for inspiration). The course looks awesome. Rest assured, a true and proper Nürburgring course along with the Nordschleife will provide the ultimate challenge for GT fans. I’m no ‘Ring fanatic, but the inclusion of the GP course should be welcomed and acknowledged.
very good graphic
finally…
Insane detail in those shots.
Yes..Great stuff. Was really hoping for VLN….The waiting is now more agonising…
(cartmans voice) IIIIYEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSS!. LOOKA T THE CAMPERS!
Looks amazing!, everything is so detailed!
ROCK ON!
awesome attention to detail! love the screenshot with the tents
Bit of news we had been waiting for, very nice :)
Wow, just wow, I SO can’t wait for this game!
Looks really good actually!
