Gran Turismo 6 releases worldwide today, officially starting the sixth chapter of one of the most popular video game series of all time, having sold more than 70 million copies in total.
GT series creator Kazunori Yamauchi first mentioned the game back during an interview back in 2009, when he confirmed that its development time would not be as lengthy as GT5’s. He was right, as GT6 releases almost exactly three years after its predecessor.
The game was officially unveiled on May 15, 2013, at an event celebrating the 15th Anniversary of the Gran Turismo series, hosted at the legendary Silverstone Circuit.
It’s important to note that Gran Turismo 6 is the first major title in the series to never receive any official delay after its official release date was announced.
