Video game development involves more observation than one may think. Since producing a game implies working with various industries, every title usually has to undergo complicated schemes of developing content before it can finally reach the shelves at its best state. Naturally, if the cycle of production is slightly longer, it is likely that certain ideas that were initially set will change over time.
Typically, much like movies see their runtimes trimmed in the editing room, some of these ideas are dropped from video games. Usually it happens due to either lack of time to polish the content, licensing issues, or technical difficulties that stand in the way of overall optimization. None of us should worry about these things, as such content usually never remains on the disc or affects our gameplay, but when it does remain, the following happens.
GTP member con360 managed to discover some of Gran Turismo 6’s hidden content and report his findings to us. Frankly, what you’re about to see should make you question the possibly huge potential of Gran Turismo 6 once more.
According to con360, Gran Turismo 6 features two hidden tracks, both of which appear under ‘GT Arena’ nameplate: Open Layout and Stunt Arena.
As the name suggests, the Open Layout seems to be a flat, closed surface which would allow driver to cruise around within the limitations of the field and satisfy their appetite for drifting. We also think this arena would be particularly interesting for online players wishing to vent by colliding with others. Check the video below and see if you can come up with better ideas!
The second track is even more engaging because it seems to be pushing the Open Layout to a higher level by revealing an exciting stunt arena with adequate objects in place. The stage first starts off with a gentle slalom around walls and a consecutive line of gates made of cardboard boxes that can be blown away by running through them. If this won’t heal your inner complexes, then performance at the half-pipe that follows certainly will, as it allows for spectacular exhibitions in the air if approached right. The last part is made of jumping platforms, one of which must be cleared with decent speed to make the ideal landing. Sounds lovely, don’t you agree? Let’s see how it works in action:
As con360 emphasized, getting access to the tracks is very difficult, so they probably cannot be obtained without making some controversial moves with the hardware. At least we get to see that Polyphony were keen on delivering something completely different to Gran Turismo fans and drivers as this really stands out from usual routine found in the series. As a matter of fact, GTP member ron86 found a statement made by SCE President Shuhei Yoshida, which clearly indicates that such plans had strong background:
“Not only will Gran Turismo 5 deliver an even more comprehensive set of cars and courses than gamers saw with previous iterations, it will also feature new game-enhancing graphical effects such as damage, night racing and weather.”
“These innovations are twinned with the option to join millions of like-minded individuals globally within the Gran Turismo community and to find a driving experience to suit, whether that is taking on the Top Gear test track, chucking cars around stunt arenas, go-karting, creating and sharing your own track or intense head-to-head races. Who, where and what to drive is completely down to the individual.”

Of course, I should point out that Gran Turismo 6 is not the first game to receive in-depth analysis by our community. Several members have compiled very interesting materials for both Gran Turismo 1 and Gran Turismo 2. A GTP member who greatly contributed to these threads is known as Xenn; his methods and research results have also loaded Gran Turismo 3, Gran Turismo 4 and Gran Turismo PSP with some really wicked stuff, some of which you may not have seen before. Be sure to check them out, along with the gallery below.

Tracks similar to the stunt course would be excellent for Rallycross.
IIRC the ability to create your own course in the arena was a promised feature that was never delivered. No surprise it’s in the game but not released, there were several features in GT5 discovered through the modding process as well.
Either PD is afraid the PS3 can’t handle it for online modes or they simply are just restricting what we can and can’t do.
It’s like they have so much to offer but hold back for some reason…
Sounds silly but the thing I was hoping they would implement would be car soccer and car hockey in the stadium. I think it would have been hugely popular online.
The track with the jumps looks like a coffee break track that didn’t make the cut.
A skid pad would be a great addition for tuning and setup changes.
Does anyone now how to obtain them yet?
My guess they’re tracks PD uses for testing the physics engine.
My thoughts exactly. That or a coffee break mission. Those would never figure on the track list.
This is what gran turismo is missing.. It has best driving engine and it is very flexible.. Drift, racing, rally all plays great (if they remove invisible walls and silly track limitations wall rides) and add stunt tracks, it would be another level of gran turismo.. Just open up the game Pd… Let us drive out of track off road and jump into the sky if we want to… It’s called variation…
I would’ve rather had that stunt-track than the pointless moon-stuff.
I agree!
@Kurei :
How about a *Stunt Track Maker* ?
If this was crossovered with Course Maker – where we can shape the stunt track the way we want to – it’ll be the players cars playgrounds X)
pointless to you, but not others.
what a shame that those tracks aren’t usable for the regular user, especially the open layout.
Looks so fun!
I have thought for a long time of what fun it would be to have a demolition derby… ;)
Yeah, with decent driving physics and damage it would be my favorite mode…. Just because of the fun factor… I still love and respect any other racing..
Looks fun especially the half pipe.
Shame they don’t have one more update to completely open the game up (no PP limits, any car anywhere & hidden content). But they won’t because the last time a game error allowed you to use a user created track in championship games they updated the game to stop it (it wasn’t doing any harm and was off line anyway).
Yay, I did a thing! Cheers for featuring this!
Thanks alot.. You could actually change the game, now when people know this, maybe, just maybe Pd will add this in the future… If we ask properly. :)
Lol that’s amazing.
But can everybody use this tracks?
