Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races: A La Kart

Despite originally stating that the Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races would be “updated at irregular intervals”, another new set has arrived for the third Monday in a row — just as they did with GT Sport.

It’s another full spread of “BOP” races this week, with an in-game “Balance of Performance” calculation applied in all three events. This is a method for equalizing car performance seen in real world races, setting a specific power and weight value for each car depending on pace, though in Gran Turismo it locks vehicle settings down too.

Our Race A this week will put players into a car from their own garage, and for the first time it’s not a vehicle you can pick up during the GT Cafe single-player game, so you’ll have to spend some in-game cash.

It won’t cost you much though, as the Gran Turismo Racing Kart 125 Shifter is the cheapest vehicle in the game at just 10,000cr (a good tip for the Firm Favorite PSN Trophy). You’ll find it in the Asia-Pacific section of Brand Central, under the Gran Turismo brand.

As you can’t tweak the kart at all, and it comes with the required Sports Soft tires already fitted, it’s simply a case of grabbing your preferred color from Brand Central (or going mad with the livery editor) and heading out for an eight-lap race around the Kyoto Driving Park Miyabi course.

It’s a short track well-suited to the karts, with only a single braking point. You’ll be full-throttle for the rest of the lap, so you only really need to take care over the curbs and be mindful of the slipstream effect.

Races B and C should be familiar to GT Sport players, with the core classes for the Gran Turismo World Series represented.

You’ll be taking Gr.4 cars — equivalent to GT4, featuring stripped back, modified road cars — to the fictional Dragon Trail Gardens track, one of two set near the town of Baska Voda in Croatia.

Again, BOP applies here, which should see front- and four-wheel drive cars in the category at the front of the pack as is usually the case in Gr.4 races without significant tire wear. You’ll need to buy a set of Racing Medium tires for your car, but otherwise just pick the vehicle you’re most comfortable with and take on this four-lap race.

Gr.3 cars — equivalent to GT3, with purpose-built race cars resembling production models but commonly sharing very few components — feature in Race C. This longer, endurance-style event usually includes higher rates of tire wear, requiring players to think about strategy.

That’s the case this week, with tire wear turned up to an eye-watering 15x; each lap will result in 15 laps of degradation. As the race is 13 laps long, that means your Racing Hard tires will feel 195 laps old.

With such a high rate of wear, along with 7x fuel use (fuel drains at seven times the normal rate) a pit stop is pretty likely, which means you’ll have to negotiate the tight and awkward pit entry at Brands Hatch, along with the awkward exit that spits you into the racing line for the notorious Paddock Hill bend. As pit lane line rules are enabled, make sure you don’t cross the lines…

In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub.

Although the Daily Races updates have so far matched GT Sport’s regular offerings, with a new set arriving each Monday, we don’t know when the next set will become available. However we’d anticipate a refresh on Monday April 4.
