The latest set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races has arrived to cover the next seven days, and there’s something of a shakeup to the procedures this week.
As of the v1.15 update, Race A has become an effectively unranked event. You will neither gain nor lose Driver or Sportsmanship Rating points during the race, so it’s more or less an open lobby but at scheduled times.
There’s another major change to Race A this week, as it’s the first since the opening couple of weeks to turn the Balance of Performance (BOP) system off and allow players to tune and tweak their own cars.
Aside from nitrous, which is still prohibited, it’s a free for all. You can enter any car you wish, so long as it’s a road car, and tuned however you like within the confines of a 450PP upper limit and on Comfort Soft tires.
Naturally that means you can’t take advantage of the car rental system, so it’s an event for your own garage cars only. Once you’ve got an appropriate car it’s a five-lap race of Laguna Seca, with a rolling start.
Race B this week also has an unusual consideration: fuel consumption. Ordinarily this is only turned on for Race C, but you’ll be faced with a 7x fuel use multiplier for the five-lap race of Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps — so your fuel tank will drain seven times faster.
That will require a little bit of fuel saving — leaner maps, lifting and coasting, short-shifting — with more for the thirstier cars in the required Gr.3 class, so be careful to save enough for the final laps. Racing Hard tires are required, and you can rent a car if you want to try out something different.
Race C also has an odd tactical edge to it this week. It’s a nine-lap race around the full Autodrome Lago Maggiore circuit, for Gr.4 cars. There’s also a 7x fuel use multiplier, which will likely also require some fuel management, but it’s not the major concern.
Instead that goes to the tires. You may use Racing Hard and Racing Soft tires, but the Softs are mandatory — you must use them for at least one racing lap or face a one-minute post-race penalty.
Furthermore, the 12x tire wear multiplier means that no-stopping on Softs will be incredibly difficult, especially for front- and four-wheel drive cars, as they’ll experience 108 laps’ worth of wear.
In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub.
With GT7’s Daily Races so far updating to the same weekly schedule as that of most of GT Sport’s life, we’d expect the next new set to arrive on Monday June 20.
