There’s a new set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races to entertain players for the next seven days and, as usual with the post-update schedule, it makes the most of the new content added to the game.
Two of this week’s three events take place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, with two of the three new layouts hosting races — including the mad Rallycross track.
All three races use the Balance of Performance (BOP) system to roughly equalize vehicle performance within a given class, but this means players cannot tune or tweak their cars other than visually.
You’ll be able to rent a car — in standard livery — if you lack a suitable vehicle, want to try something out, or just want to keep the miles and wear off your garage cars.
It’s Race A that takes you to the Rallycross circuit, with a seven-lap race for Gr.B vehicles. Oddly, these off-road monsters don’t have Dirt tires fitted as standard so you will need to buy a set either in the Tuning Shop or Race Shop to take part.
There’s a grid start with false start check (keep the brakes or handbrake on) on the start line spur, which is set on the main Catalunya course just ahead of turn 10. You’ll have precious little grip due to the Dirt tires, so we foresee carnage before you even get to the circuit. Don’t forget you’ll have access to a variable center differential too.
Race B heads to the familiar surroundings of the Suzuka Circuit. It’s a four-lap race around the main grand prix layout using Gr.4 cars, on Racing Hard tires, which almost certainly means a four-wheel drive example will be the weapon of choice this week — and probably the Alfa 155.
You’ll need your wits about you for Race C in more ways than one. Firstly, it runs the new “No Chicane” layout at Catalunya, so be sure your mental autopilot doesn’t try to take the right-handed turn 13.
Secondly you’ve got mandatory tires to consider. Both Racing Hard and Racing Medium are required this week, so you’ll need to run one lap — pit exit or start line to pit entry or finish line — on each tire grade or you’ll earn yourself a one-minute penalty after the race.
That’s complicated further by the new tire wear graphic and reportedly heavier degradation across the board, in addition to a 7x tire wear multiplier chewing your rubber seven times faster.
The graphic now represents remaining tire grip rather than remaining tire tread, so cars will start getting wayward at about 30%. Lift and coast, and smooth steering inputs are the ticket.
You’ll need any Gr.3 car for the ten-lap race, and while the fuel consumption multiplier is set at 4x — so your tank drains four times quicker — it shouldn’t be an issue. It’ll be good practice for the Nations Cup race this coming weekend too.
In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub.
With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday thus far, the next new set should arrive on Monday September 5.
