A brand new set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races is now available, covering the next seven days of online racing and featuring two of the oldest race tracks still in regular use in the world.
Players will likely be getting some use out of the car loan feature introduced earlier this year, while the still-underplayed engine swap function could be getting another workout this week as full tuning is enabled for one event.
That latter item applies to Race A, which is once again a “No DR/SR” event as we’ve seen for almost every Race A since May. You won’t gain or lose Driver or Sportsmanship Rating points for the race, no matter how good — or bad — you drive.
This week the race heads to Goodwood Motor Circuit, a former F1 venue now used for the annual “Revival” event which is themed around the cars (and clothing) seen in the track’s twilight years as a full competition circuit.
Appropriately then, although only just, you’ll be driving the 1965 Mini Cooper S for this week’s race and aside from nitrous you have free rein on vehicle settings. So long as you can squeeze the car under the 350.00PP limit — which will be tricky if you have stuffed the K20 turbo engine in — you can do anything you like to the Mini.
There’s not even any limits on tires, but you’ll need to strike the balance between grip for Goodwood’s high speed corners (and two really slow ones) and power for the long acceleration zones. The four-lap race will flash right by.
Race B is more standard GT7 fare. You’ll be heading to the Kyoto Driving Park circuit and the long, long Yamagiwa+Miyabi configuration — but in the reverse direction. This means you’ll be driving the reverse layout of Yamagiwa before switching into the regular Miyabi course, then back onto the reverse Yamagiwa.
It’s a Gr.4 race for cars equipped with Racing Hard tires, and that probably means another week of all-wheel drive domination — if not grids full of Alfa Romeo 155s — as the BOP in GT7 still overcompensates these cars in races without tire wear.
Finally Race C goes to the 24 Hours of Le Mans Circuit, to take in a race for some of the fastest cars in the game.
While it only comes in as a five-lap race, it has a strategy angle this week. Tire wear is set at 4x, meaning the required Racing Medium rubber wears four times faster than usual, but the real concern is the 7x fuel consumption.
Unless you pick a modern hybrid car and fuel save, a pit stop is inevitable; the Group C cars will be capable of faster laps due to the prodigious straight-line speed, but they do like to drink down the fuel.
In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub.
With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday thus far, the next new set should arrive on Monday December 19.
