Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races: My Mountain, My Glen

The first set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races for 2023 are now available, with three new events for players to race across the next seven days.

With the 2022/23 Exhibition Season running alongside the races ahead of what’s surely the build-up to the 2023 Gran Turismo Online Championship, it’s a good chance to build your Driver Rating up to get into a higher league for the serious business of the official championship event.

Of course that won’t apply to Race A, which is again a “No DR/SR” event. As with most Race A challenges since the end of May, you will neither gain nor lose Driver or Sportsmanship Rating points no matter what happens during the race.

This week that takes you to Tsukuba, in a classic Gran Turismo race that mimics a real-world event. Naturally that means you’ll be driving an MX-5, in its latest, fourth-generation form with the most-recently added NR-A. This track-ready version of the car is ideal for the eight-lap race, with plenty of sliding about on the Comfort Soft tires.

Race B meanwhile heads to North America, and the new-for-GT7 Watkins Glen circuit, added in an update back in June.

It’s a relatively simple race in principle, with any Gr.4 car eligible for the five-lap race of the standard circuit, on Racing Medium tires. That probably means AWD domination once again, with either the Alfa Romeo 155, Nissan GT-R, or Subaru WRX heading the pack.

Finally Race C brings another classic formula, with a Gr.3 event set at Mount Panorama — previewing the real-world Bathurst 12hr endurance which is staged early in the year.

It’s a slightly complicated formula this week with Racing Hard and Racing Medium tires both required. Failing to use both tire grades during the race results in a one-minute post-race penalty.

Relatively high tire wear, set at an 8x multiplier so that each lap generated eight laps’ worth of wear, will mean you’ll need your strategy boots on to extract as much performance from the faster-wearing Mediums and spend as little time on the slippier Hards as you can during the ten-lap race.

In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub.

With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday January 9.
