Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races: Haven’t Got a Scooby

The latest set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races is now available, with three new races taking place every 20-30 minutes schedules over the coming week.

There’s a familiar pattern to the events this week, with a Gr.3 race featuring tire wear, a Gr.4 sprint race, and a road car one-make. That last item is in its usual Race A slot and a “No DR/SR” event, so you’ll neither gain nor lose Driver or Sportsmanship Rating points when you take part.

This week that takes you to the Red Bull Ring circuit in Austria, with the Subaru Impreza 22B as the featured car. You can use your own vehicle or, if you don’t have a Scooby, use the “event-specified” rentail car feature to borrow one. Either way it’s a straightforward five-lap race on Sports Hard tires.

Race B heads down into the Mediterranean Sea, with a seven-lap race around the Sardegna Road Track venue, using the B layout. This is the complex circuit that features a steeply inclined middle section, cutting through the wind turbines.

It’s a Gr.4 race this week, and by now everyone will probably have realised that means you’ll need an all-wheel drive car to do well. Early signs are that the Subaru WRX is top of the pile, but whichever car you use you’ll need to fit Racing Medium tires for the race.

That leaves Race C, which adds some tactical requirements this week. It’s a Gr.3 race at the very familiar venue of Dragon Trail Seaside — one of the combinations that’s been with us since the Gran Turismo Sport Beta six years ago.

It’s a ten-lap race, but tires will be a major factor. Firstly, you will be required to use both the Racing Hard and Racing Medium tire for at least one pass of the start/finish line out on track, or you’ll be served with a one-minute penalty after the race.

Tacked onto that is a tire wear multiplier that’s on the higher side of usual, at 8x. That means each lap generates eight laps’ worth of wear, so you’ll need to be careful and make sure you’re not pushing the Medium tire too far or using the slower Hard tire too long to make the best race time. The 3x fuel consumption multiplier ought to be immaterial.

In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub.

With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday February 20.
