Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races: Danger 5

A new set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races is now available, with the rally stages getting a rare outing among the offering for the next seven days.

Race A retains its usual “No DR/SR” event format, which means you’ll neither gain nor lose Driver or Sportsmanship Rating points when you take part. You’ll be glad of that this week, as it takes place on a loose surface which a treacherous, rear-wheel drive car.

Colorado Springs hosts the five-lap race, at the curiously specified “Lake” layout — which has teased alternate layouts since it arrived in GT Sport over five years ago. It’s a one-make race for the mid-engined, rear-wheel drive Renault 5 Turbo.

Although it was the basis for a Group 4 rally car, the 5 Turbo was much more successful on asphalt-surface rallies than gravel, winning Monte Carlo, Tour de Course (twice), and the mixed-surface Rally Portugal. It will be somewhat tricky on the rough stuff here, especially with 11 other drivers…

Race B is more standard fare, with a little twist. You’ll be racing Gr.3 cars, so you just need to pick your favorite option in this largely even category, and strap on a set of Racing Medium tires.

The race heads to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya circuit, but this week it’s in the “No Chicane” GP layout. That means no final chicane, so you can carry maximum speed from turn 12 all the way to the finish line throughout the four-lap race.

This week’s endurance-style event goes to Autodrome Lago Maggiore, again in a slightly different form of the Reverse version of the GP circuit.

It’s a Gr.2 challenge this week, which means your choices are the three 2008 Super GT cars, the three 2016 Super GT cars, and the McLaren F1 GTR Longtail and Mercedes CLK-LM.

Whichever car you choose you’ll need Racing Medium and Racing Soft tires; both sets are mandatory so you’ll need to make at least one pass of the start/finish line out on track, or you’ll be served with a one-minute penalty after the race.

There’s a high tire wear multiplier too. This runs at 7x, so each lap will generate seven laps’ worth of wear, which will chew up the Softs pretty quickly. You’ll need to make sure you’re getting the best out of the faster Softs but not keep hold of them so long that the loss of grip makes the Mediums quicker. A 2x fuel consumption multiplier won’t make any difference to your strategy.

In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub.

With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday February 27.
