Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races: Straight Down the Middle

The latest selection of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races is now available, running across the next week and featuring tracks with long main straights.

That begins in Race A, which takes players to the former F1 circuit that had the longest straight on the calendar: Fuji International Speedway.

You’ll be using one of the new-to-game cars, in the shape of the Subaru Impreza WRX STi introduced in update 1.35 at the end of June. It’s an interesting combination, given that the car is probably better known for acceleration and grip than it is for outright speed; indeed it’s one of the few with a standard variable center differential.

Bucking a recent trend for shorter races, it’s a five-lap event. You’ll only need to equip the Impreza with Sports Hard tires — which are standard-fit whether you buy the car or borrow one for the race.

Players will need to pay attention to the grid start too, which features a False Start Check. This requires you to hold the car on the brakes (or handbrake) before the final starting light comes on and until they go off to start the race. Any creeping or jumping of the start will result in your power being cut for a period and probably cause a crash if you’re high enough up the grid.

As we’ve seen almost exclusively since May 2022, this race will once again be a “No DR/SR Updates” event. That means you’ll neither gain nor lose Driver Rating or Sportsmanship Rating no matter what happens in the race.

Races B and C once again feature the core Sport Mode Gr.4 and Gr.3 cars, in more expected positions. That means the GT4-like Gr.4 category will feature in the Race B sprint event.

For this week that takes place at the fictional Sardegna Road Track location — based on the real Mediterranean island — using the B circuit. This is the version that most resembles a European GT racing course, with the winding infield through the wind turbines.

You can select any Gr.4 car for this six-lap race, again a little longer than we’ve seen recently, so long as it’s equipped with Racing Hard tires for the event. There’s no tire wear or fuel consumption issues to be aware of, so just go all-out.

That leaves Race C, which this week features the Gr.3 category cars — Gran Turismo’s equivalent to the real-world GT3 class.

It’s a ten-lap race at the newest circuit in the game, Grand Valley Highway 1. You’ll be racing ten laps at the full version of the course.

There’s both tire wear and tire grade concerns in this week’s race. Firstly, both the Racing Hard and Racing Medium tires available this week are mandatory. That means you’ll need to use a full set of both for at least one lap during the race, or you’ll face a post-race penalty of one minute.

Additionally there’s a high tire wear multiplier which, at 7x the usual rate, means your tires wear seven times faster than normal. You’ll need to extract the most out of the softer, Medium tire grade without running it so far that a fresh Hard tire would be faster; plan your race strategy accordingly.

In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub.

With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday July 17.
