Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races: Home of the Brave

The latest set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races is now available, with a little shake-up to the usual order of things and starring three circuits located in the USA.

Whereas Race A traditionally features a one-make race for road cars of some description, this week it features race cars — with a twist.

You can select any of the eight Gr.4 cars, the Gran Turismo equivalent to the GT4 class, that use all-wheel drive powertrains. That’s the Alfa Romeo 155, Bugatti Veyron, Genesis G70, Lamborghini Huracan, Mazda Atenza, Mitsubishi Lancer, Nissan GT-R, and Subaru WRX.

There’s a further unusual consideration in that partial settings adjustment is available in this race. You’ll be able to adjust the brake balance on the cars, requiring buttons mapped for your multifunction display (MFD) to select the Brake Balance Controller and adjust it forwards or rearwards.

It’s a five-lap race at the short Grand Valley South course, on Racing Hard tires. As usual though it is a “no DR/SR Updates” event, which means neither your Driver Rating nor Sportsmanship Rating will be affected by the race.

Race B brings us to a rarely seen circuit in Sport Mode, with Daytona hosting the event at its Road Course. It’s a four-lap race for Gr.3 cars, but again brake balance settings are available so this may well shake up the usual rankings of this category.

Other than the fact you’ll be using Racing Hard tires, there’s no further special considerations here. Except for the nightmare braking zone of turn one.

Finally there’s Race C which is the one-make race for road cars this week. However it’s only barely a road car, with the Radical SR3 SL — the name literally meaning “Street Legal” — looking more like a mini-LMP car than something you’d drive to the grocery store.

You’ll be taking the British machine to Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta for a 13-lap race, using Sports Hard tires. There’s no tire wear or fuel consumption to be concerned about, as both are set to default, but you will need to make one stop during the race as required by the regulations — though you don’t need to change tires.

Road Atlanta’s pit entry is pretty difficult to spot and remain inside the lines, so we’re expecting this to cause plenty of three-second penalties this week as people get it wrong. Failing to make the stop also attracts a one-minute post-race penalty.

One final piece of order is that the race features a Grid Start with False Start Check. You’ll need to keep the car on the brakes or handbrake from the moment the final start light comes on and until they all go off; jumping the start will result in a drop of engine power for a few seconds, and probably a massive crash as people behind you pile into you.

In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub.

With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday July 31.
