A new set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races is now available for the next seven days, but you’ll be forgiven for thinking that there’s something awfully familiar about them.
That’s because this week’s grouping is actually a complete set that we’ve seen once before in GT7’s life, and actually pretty recently too as the three races were all used back in mid-May…
For Race A then, you’ll be heading to the Autodrome Lago Maggiore and the compact East End course. This is the version based around the “arena” section of the main course: turns four through nine, with the start/finish on the climb after turn six.
Once again you’ll be using the Daihatsu Copen for the race, with the tiny, 62hp convertible equipped with Comfort Medium tires for the race — making for some slightly loose handling. Thankfully it’s a “No DR/SR Updates” event as usual, so neither your Driver Rating nor Sportsmanship Rating will be affected by the race.
Race B heads over to Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta for a race in Gr.4 machinery. You can select any vehicle you like from this GT4-like category of production vehicles modified for racing, and recent changes to the Balance of Performance will mean a slightly different set of cars rising to the top of the timings — and note that brake balance settings are once again prohibited.
It’s a five-lap sprint around the course, with no significant fuel consumption or tire wear settings and Racing Hard tires required, so just get out there for a quick blast.
That leaves us with Race C which takes us to the Red Bull Ring in Austria for a longer, 13-lap race in the Gr.3 cars.
You’ll need to be switched on for this event though as there’s a whole load of ways to pick up penalties thanks to mandatory tires and a high rate of tire wear.
Fuel consumption won’t be an issue here, but the 10x tire wear multiplier — so each lap generates ten laps’ worth of wear — will cause some headaches. You’ll also be required to use both the Racing Medium and Racing Soft tires during the race, so you will need to pit to swap over and also have a plan to get the most out of the sticky Soft tires without taking them past their best.
Failing to use both grades of tire will earn you a one-minute penalty added to your final race time. Red Bull Ring’s pit entry is also pretty awkward if you’re not used to it, and crossing the pit lane lines on entry or exit will slap you with a three-second penalty to be served in the penalty zone next time round.
In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub.
With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday August 21.
