Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races: MR2’s Company

While many of you may be looking forward to tucking into some turkey today, the Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races schedule waits for no man — with a new set available from today.

As usual, all three races have updated, bringing a week of a new one-make event alongside two races for Gr.4 and Gr.3 race cars.

Race A once again sees Driver Rating updates turned off this week, so that nothing that happens in the race has any impact on your DR. You will, however, see your Sportsmanship Rating impacted, and that could be interesting given the nature of the combination.

The race visits the Nurburgring, but it’s set at the compact “Sprint” layout which takes in the arena section of the GP circuit — cutting through between turns five and 11 of the course. It’s a four-lap race, and the car in question is the second-generation Toyota MR2.

You can borrow a vehicle for the event or enter it in your own — and beware that any car you’ve modified with a widebody or engine swap won’t be eligible — so long as it’s fitted with Comfort Soft tires. Watch out for the false start check on the grid start too, which cuts engine power (for as much time after the start as you jumped it) if you roll before the lights go out.

Race B heads to the fictional Dragon Trail location, this week taking in the Reverse layout of the Gardens track. You’ll need a Gr.4 car for the race, fitted with Racing Hard tires.

There’s free choice over what Gr.4 car you use — and while the Mazda 3 Gr.4 holds its regular top billing, the tight course and the AWD might make it a little more of a chore — and you’ll be able to adjust Brake Balance before and during the four-lap race.

That leaves Gr.3 for Race C which makes a rare trip to the Circuit de Sainte-Croix location. For this event it’s a five-lap race of the C layout, with a small strategic element.

You’ll be required to use the Racing Soft tires, and given that the tire wear is set at a 5x multiplier that’s a pretty long time for such short-lived rubber. Handily there’s also a mandatory pit stop, which means you’ll need to decide whether to go long at the start or the end — three laps then two, or two laps then three.

There’s a chance you can eke out the tire life with the Brake Balance adjustment availability. While fuel consumption is also on a 2x multiplier, it won’t be an issue.

In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub.

With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday January 1. Yes, really.
