The Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races are ringing in the New Year with three brand new races to cover the next week, taking in three of the game’s F1 circuits and one of the best-sounding cars in the title.
That comes in Race A, which is once again a one-make event featuring a single vehicle. This week it heads to the Toyota-owned Fuji Speedway, with a car that takes its name from the circuit: the Lexus LFA.
You’ll be treated to a dozen LFAs — with the “F” of the Lexus brand’s sporting sub-marque coming from the first initial of the course — screaming around five laps of the circuit in this race. The only requirement of the car, which you can again borrow if you want to keep the miles off your own, is to fit Sports Hard tires.
This week’s race also sees a grid start with a false start check. That means you’ll need to hold the car on the brakes or handbrake from the moment the final light comes on and until they go off. Failing to do so and letting the car move will see you lose almost all engine power for as long after the start as the amount by which you jumped it — and probably result in a big accident.
There’s again the consideration of how Race A impacts your ratings, with Driver Rating updates turned off for this week’s race. Sportsmanship Rating updates remain switched on, and given the frequency of divebombs at the first turn, the Dunlop Chicane, and the entire final section, that may be a little bit off-putting.
Races B and C see their usual Gr.3 and Gr.4 race car mix, and this week partial suspension tuning returns in both races. You’ll be able to adjust damper (compression and extension), anti-roll bar, and spring natural frequency rates ahead of each race, and brake balance both before and during (if you have buttons mapped for the multi-function display, of course).
It’s the Gr.3 cars in the sprint Race B this week, which heads to the Suzuka Circuit, 140 miles to the west-southwest.
That’s another five-lap race, and it’s simply a case of selecting your preferred Gr.3 race car, strapping Racing Hard tires and racing. You might like to consult GTPlanet’s GT7 Car Tuning forum for a little more speed from your chosen car.
Finally there’s Race C which skips across continents to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya location for an 11-lap race in the Gr.4 cars.
You’ll be racing around the “No Chicane” configuration of the track, which cuts out the RACC chicane added for F1 in 2007 to reduce speeds onto the main straight but removed again for the 2023 race.
There’s a mild tactical element to this race too. Racing Medium tires are required, and with a 4x tire wear multiplier they may be getting a bit worn out by the end of the race — having covered the equivalent of 44 laps by then. However there’s also a mandatory pit stop too.
As you don’t need to take tires (or fuel) on during the stop, we may see drivers going the full distance on one set or sacrificing a couple of seconds in the stop for fresher rubber at the end. The timing of stops may also play into the tactics: do you pit early to get out of traffic, with everyone else to keep the slipstream, or late for the on-track advantage?
In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub.
With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday January 8.
