Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races: Plan B

Gran Turismo 7’s Daily Races rotate once again today, with another new set beginning as the game moves into its third year.

There’s a little bit of a shake-up to the events this week, which sees an unusual Race A featuring a car category that doesn’t often appear in the Daily Races and away from its natural home.

That is, as you might expect from the image above, Gr.B. This is a catch-all category for off-road racers, including a mixture of real rally cars from different eras (including the Group B era from which it derives its name) and vehicles inspired by Rallycross.

You won’t be racing off-road however, as the cars head to the Autodrome Lago Maggiore location for an eight-lap blast around the compact East End Reverse course. This track takes in the stadium section, starting on the descent towards it, cutting back through between turns three and eight with a sharp hairpin that also has a downhill braking zone.

With only Comfort Soft tires permitted for these rally monsters, it’s set to be a slippery race — even if Brake Balance Controller adjustments are available — and while Driver Rating updates are once again turned off, Sportsmanship Rating updates remain switched on. We expect chaos, especially as the False Start Check is once again in effect on the grid start, penalizing jump-starts with a short, on-the-spot engine power cut.

Races B and C feature the usual Gr.3 and Gr.4 cars, although with the latter class taking the longer slot this week. In both cases there’s a range of settings adjustments available: brake balance; differential settings; and dampers, anti-roll bars, and spring frequency on the suspension.

If you haven’t played since the 1.43 update, be aware that a few changes to the Balance of Performance (BOP) will mean different cars coming to the fore — particularly in Gr.4.

For Race B it’s pretty familiar territory as you head to Trial Mountain for a four-lap race in the Gr.3 cars. Vehicle set-up aside (and the effects are pretty minimal, given stock toe, camber, ride height, and gearing) there’s not a lot of intrigue here, so just grab your preferred Gr.3, make sure the required Racing Medium tires are fitted, and have fun.

Race C takes you to Brands Hatch’s Grand Prix layout for the 11-lap Gr.4 race, and that recent BOP change along with the settings available means a slightly different look for this week’s race as the lightweight mid-engined vehicles in the class — which features multiple drivetrain types — look to be the way to go.

You’re going to need to be aware of the mandatory pit stop on this week’s race, as failing to head down the pit lane will earn you a one-minute penalty to your final race time. Simply making a pass through the pits is sufficient (so long as you don’t do it before the race starts or at the end of lap 11), so you won’t need to fuel up or change tires.

Tire wear ought not to be a factor in any case at a mere 5x multiplier — wearing five times faster than standard — with the required Racing Medium tires capable of lasting the full distance. Fuel consumption remains at the standard rate and probably won’t be an issue unless you pick a thirsty vehicle.

In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub.

With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday March 11.
