Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races: United Nations

A special race marking this coming weekend’s Gran Turismo World Series Round 1 in Montreal — and an incentive to take part in it — is part of the new line-up of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races, starting today.

The race, which occupies the Race C slot for the next seven days, is a replica of one of the stages of the Nations Cup at the GTWS live event, with players given a choice of one of 12 specially tuned road cars for a seven-lap sprint around the Watkins Glen Long Course.

It’s something we’ve seen in similar celebratory races before, matching the qualifying race for the Nations Cup. At the live event the players will qualify in a regular hot lap contest, giving them seeding to select from the dozen vehicles available. That will set the cars for the race, the finishing order of which will determine the grid for the grand final.

The 12 cars in question are ones we’ve seen in those races previously, but it should be noted that the cars for the Montreal event haven’t yet been announced. There’s also the curious statement that they will be “commercially sold cars”, which of course doesn’t fit one of the cars: the Mazda RX-Vision Concept.

Along with the Mazda though, you’ll have the choice of the Chevrolet Corvette C7 ’14, Ferrari F40 ’92, Ford GT ’06, Honda NSX Type R ’92, Jaguar XJ220 ’92, Lamborghini Diablo ’00, Lexus LFA ’10, Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren ’09, Nissan Fairlady Z (Z33) ’07, Porsche 911 (997) GT3 ’09, and Toyota Supra RZ ’97.

While that may seem a pretty imbalanced selection, each car is tuned up in a specific manner — thus you can only borrow the cars this week. The Lexus appears to be the best choice for the race, which also comes with a 600% boost in credit rewards for taking part. That’s still not a huge sum compared to some of the single-player races, but it’s better than nothing…

Race B is a regular Gr.3 race this week, taking place at the Autodrome Lago Maggiore Full Course. As usual you can select any of the cars from this GT3-like category for the five-lap race, so long as it’s equipped with Racing Hard tires.

As a sprint race there’s nothing tactical about it, with no mandatory stops, no required tire changes, and no fuel consumption or tire degradation multipliers. That means you’ll just need to get out there and smash out five qualifying laps.

That leaves Race A which is a regular one-make event for road cars. It’s the turn of an old favorite this week as the Ford Focus RS ’18 is the car in question, selected for the five-lap run at Sardegna Road’s B course on Sports Hard tires.

The only complicating factor of this race is the False Start Check. You’ll need to hold the car on the brakes or handbrake between the final start light illuminating and the lights going off to start the race, or you’ll take an on-the-spot power limiter penalty for a short period of time. In the best-case scenario you’ll watch everyone else disappear up the road, but there’s also the possibility of being the first car in a very large accident.

In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.

With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, July 8.
