Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races are focused entirely on racing machinery this week, with the latest set of three events now available for the next seven days.
The Daily Races are the core ranked multiplayer events in GT7, with player ratings — Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) — updated after each race. This sets their position for the flagship esports series each season.
Often, as with this week, Race A is partly excluded from this with the DR updates switched off and that’s an interesting choice for the current event. It’ll see you heading to the Red Bull Ring for a six-lap race in the Gr.3 cars that headline the Manufacturers Cup, and given that this could easily be a regular Race B event it’s strange that it’s effectively unranked.
As usual with this format of race you can select any of the Gr.3 cars, although it seems like the most competitive option this week is the Porsche 911 RSR. Whatever your choice it needs to be equipped with Racing Medium tires.
For Race B you’ll be in the slower Gr.4 cars. This is a GT4-like class of stripped-back and modified road cars, with less power and less reliance on aerodynamic assists, along with a variety of drivetrain choices that don’t really exist in the real category.
It’s a four-lap race at the Grand Valley Highway 1 course, which is an updated version of the old Gran Turismo classic circuit relocated to California’s Big Sur — part of the driving route required for the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
Again there’s free choice of cars from this class for the race, but you’ll need Racing Hard tires this time round. At present it looks like the majority of the field is racing the Nissan GT-R Gr.4 machine.
Finally Race C heads to Suzuka Circuit for an 11-lap race in the Gr.2 category cars and if you think this sounds a bit familiar you’d be right: it’s also the combination for one of the current Time Trial events.
Despite the difference in tires — the race requires Racing Softs — the picture in qualifying is pretty much the same as the Time Trial: you’ll want a 2016 GT500 car and ideally the NSX. You’ll need to be mindful of the tires too, as the 3x tire wear multiplier doesn’t seem that steep but on the soft grade there’s little chance of making one set last.
Additionally there is a mandatory pit stop which you can take at any time between the end of the first lap and the start of the last lap. You don’t need to take fuel or tires to satisfy this requirement, but you’ll want to get a fresh set of softs either way. While it’s unlikely you’ll forget, failing to make the stop earns you a one-minute penalty after the race.
In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.
With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, September 2.
