It’s a very racy-looking week in the Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races this week, with all three events featuring track machines — and from the very highest echelons too.
Daily Races are the main ranked multiplayer events in GT7. Your Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) are determined by your performances, updating after each race, and these are used to set your ranking and leagues for the game’s flagship esports series each season.
This doesn’t always track for Race A and again this week it features no DR updates. However your SR can still be affected — by how clean, or otherwise, your race is — so take care not to sink too much time into it if your SR is valuable as there’s little to gain in rating terms otherwise.
It’s a pretty enjoyable one though, comprising a simple, five-lap sprint race around Deep Forest in the Gr.4 machines on Racing Hard tires. You can select any car you like from this GT4-like category, consisting of stripped-out road cars with track-ready upgrades, and it looks like AWD vehicles are the prime choice this week.
Race B is a bit of a relentless one this week, as you’ll head over to the Fuji International Speedway for a five-lap race in Gr.3 cars.
Again, any vehicle from this class is permitted so long as it has Racing Medium tires, so pick your favorite option and make sure it’s clad in the appropriate rubber. You’ll need something with plenty of top-end to take advantage of the enormous straight, and the Huracan is proving a popular option this week. Just don’t drive like Nicholas Capa…
That leaves Race C which sees a rare outing for the Gr.1 category in a tactical race at the high-speed Monza circuit in Italy.
Gr.1 covers a wide spread of vehicles, from classic Group C racers through several eras of top-class Le Mans cars (except LMGT1/LMGTP, which are in Gr.2) through to the modern Hypercars, and even into the imagined future of the class in certain Vision GT cars.
Whatever your choice — and it’s looking like the 2016 cars are the most popular picks — you’ll need to have Racing Soft tires equipped for this 11-lap race.
There is a mandatory pit stop in the race too. This requires that, at some point between the end of lap one and the start of lap 11 inclusive, you make a pass down the pit road. You don’t need to take on fuel or tires, but the softs won’t like being pushed to the equivalent of 44 laps so fresh rubber is a good idea.
Failing to take the stop will earn you a one-minute penalty after the race, and beware of cutting the pit-lane entry and exit — each of which could cost you three seconds in penalties you’ll need to serve on-track.
In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.
With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, September 16.
