Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races: Two-Tone

More new Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races are now available, with one special event awarding bonus credits as it ties into this coming weekend’s Gran Turismo World Series event in Tokyo.

All three events this week use cars from racing categories, and it starts with probably the most frantic Race A we’ve ever seen as you’ll head to the Autopolis circuit in the Gr.2 cars.

This category has been expanded since the game’s launch and its original GT Sport lineup, originally sporting one example each from Honda, Lexus, and Nissan from the 2008 and 2016 Super GT seasons. The range now includes three top-class Le Mans racers from 1997-1999 and a Class 1 Touring Car from the 2019 DTM season.

However it’s still the Super GT cars that are top of the class when aimed at this twisty, plunging, and harshly cambered Autopolis circuit, with the majority of top times set in the 2016 NSX. As it’s a sprint race on Racing Soft tires, it’s simply going to be six all-out laps to the finish.

Note that, despite the departure from the usual format, Race A remains without DR updates. That means that, no matter how well or badly your race goes, your Driver Rating will be unaffected. Sportsmanship Rating (SR) will still update though, so keep it clean if you pick this event.

Race B is, unusually, the one with the credits boost this week as the event mimics the Manufacturers Cup final from the upcoming Tokyo live event.

You probably won’t be too surprised to discover that it’s a race for Gr.3 cars, given that it seems the Manufacturers Cup is all about this GT3-like class these days. However you’re not limited to the 12 brands represented at the final and can select any car from the category.

It’s another relatively straightforward event, comprising a five-lap sprint around the Mount Panorama — or Bathurst — circuit, with Racing Medium tires required. Other than that and the 600% increase in credit rewards for taking part, there’s no special considerations here.

Finally there’s Race C which adds its usual level of complexity to things with a mandatory pit stop during the 11-lap run around Brands Hatch.

You can pick any vehicle from the Gr.4 class for this race, again with Racing Mediums being the mandatory tire. There is a 4x tire wear multiplier in play but that shouldn’t play a role even with the most ravenous of tire-chewing front- and four-wheel drive cars in the class.

However you will need to dive down the pit lane at least once during the race, at any time you choose between the end of lap one and the start of lap 11. There’s no need to take on any fuel or swap tires, so just head in and cancel everything to drive straight back out.

Failing to make your stop earns you a one-minute post-race penalty. Make sure that you don’t cross the pit lane lines on entry or exit either, as each is worth a three-second on-track penalty should you do so.

Daily Races are the main ranked multiplayer events in GT7. Your Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) are determined by your performances, updating after each race, and these are used to set your ranking and league for the game’s flagship esports series each season.

In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.

With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, September 30.
