A new set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races is now available for the next week, with players able to race in the usual pair of multiplayer events as well as one which is loosely related to last weekend’s Gran Turismo World Series event in Tokyo.
That’s the first event this week, as Race A takes on a bit of a Wangan flavor. It’s similar to the event used for the Sprint Qualifying Race at the Nations Cup in Tokyo over the weekend, but with a few tweaks — some more interesting than others.
Firstly, you’ll have a selection of a dozen pre-tuned road cars from which to pick. They’ve been given mechanical and visual makeovers for the event in order to very roughly balance them, but it does mean you can’t pick any of your own garage cars and are stuck with the standard liveries too.
You can select from the 2007 BMW M3, Ferrari F40, Honda NSX Type R’ 92, Jaguar XJ220, Lamborghini Diablo, Lexus LFA, Mazda RX-7 Spirit R, Mercedes-McLaren SLR, Porsche 911 997 GT3, and Toyota Supra RZ, all tuned to around 530PP, for this three lap race at a Tokyo Expressway circuit.
Unlike the GT World Series event though, it’s the Counterclockwise variant of the East location. That gives you the same massive straight but approached from the opposite direction and with the slowest corner on the course being the first rather than the last for a 170mph bottleneck.
As usual, Driver Rating (DR) updates are not turned on for this race, but Sportsmanship Rating (SR) updates remain active. That means you won’t gain or lose DR points, regardless of how well or badly it goes, but your SR could be at risk if there’s too many collisions and wall contacts.
The other two races feel kind of ordinary by comparison, but Race B does at least visit a very rarely seen track this week.
You’ll be racing the Gr.4 cars around the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya National circuit, which cuts out the GP circuit’s turn 1-5 section. It’s a straightforward, six-lap race for your choice of Gr.4 machine– and it’s looking like you’ll want a high-power AWD car this week — on Racing Hard tires.
Race C also visits a slightly unusual location for a Gr.3 challenge this week, as the Road Course at Daytona hosts proceedings for a ten-lap race.
As we regularly see in this event, there’s a mandatory pit stop. That requires you to head down the pit lane once during the race (any time between the end of the first lap and the start of the last), though you don’t need to pick up fuel or tires in the process. Failing to take the stop will earn you a one-minute penalty after the race.
Daytona’s pit entry can be pretty hard to spot at speed, so we’d recommend taking a few goes at it in practice first to avoid getting a three-second penalty for crossing the pit entry lines or, more annoyingly, a reset which places you back on track at a dead stop and doesn’t count for your mandatory pit.
Swapping tires is definitely an option in this race too. Racing Mediums plus a 6x tire wear multiplier might make for some sketchy final laps if you’re not taking care of your tires and could make a maximum-attack strategy, with the small time hit for a tire change, work.
Daily Races are the main ranked multiplayer events in GT7. Your Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) are determined by your performances, updating after each race, and these are used to set your ranking and league for the game’s flagship esports series each season.
In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.
With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, October 7.
