Road cars return to the fold in the latest set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races, but with a bit of a twist.
This week’s trio of events will see you taking on Suzuka in the Gr.2 cars and Trial Mountain in the Gr.3s, but the headline event is probably the Gran Turismo World Series-alike road car race which has you tackling the Green Hell in some highly tuned machinery.
You’ve got a choice of a dozen different road cars (well, eleven and one concept car) for this one-lap race around the Nurburgring Nordschleife, but you can’t just pick up any old car from your garage. Instead these 12 vehicles come with pre-set tunes for the race.
Each of them is tuned into a range of 520-625PP (Performance Points), with cosmetic parts as well as performance upgrades, and they’re also using Racing Hard tires for the event. You can choose from the Chevrolet Corvette C7, Ferrari F40, Ford GT ’06, Honda NSX Type R, Jaguar XJ220, Lamborghini Diablo GT, Lexus LFA, Mazda RX-Vision, Mercedes SLR McLaren, Nissan Fairlady Z Z33, Porsche 997 GT3, and Toyota Supra ’97.
The current leaderboard is a bit of a mix of machinery, and it’s probably fair to say that your knowledge of the track is going to be as much of a factor as finding the fastest car from that set.
As a mild dent in the fun, the race has Driver Rating (DR) updates turned off, so you won’t gain or lose any DR from this race. Sportsmanship Rating (SR) updates remain turned on as usual though, so there is a danger of losing SR — and if your SR falls too far it can drag your DR down to a lower level too.
For Race B you’ll be running a simple, four-lap sprint of the Trial Mountain circuit in the Gr.3 machines. There’s no particular additional concerns than ensuring your chosen car is on Racing Medium tires for the race, so just get out there and enjoy it.
Race C picks up the pace a bit and throws a much-needed tactical angle into the mix this week, with the Gr.2 cars at the Suzuka Circuit.
It’ll be an 11-lap race in your choice of the Gr.2 category cars — and as usual it’s the 2016 Super GT cars, and in particular the NSX leading the way — and it’s going to be a high-speed affair as you’ll be using Racing Soft tires.
With the tire wear multiplier set at 3x — making it an equivalent 33-lap race for your rubber — you’re going to need to make a stop for a fresh set of shoes at some point during the race. Even if you could eke the tires out somehow though, there’s a mandatory stop in effect. This would require you to make a trip down the pit lane, or face a one-minute penalty after the race.
You can stop whenever you want so long as it’s between the end of lap one and the start of lap 11, but do be aware of the pit lane entry and — particularly — exit lines which will earn you a three-second penalty if you cross either.
Daily Races are the main ranked multiplayer events in GT7. Your Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) are determined by your performances, updating after each race, and these are used to set your ranking and league for the game’s flagship esports series each season.
In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.
With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, November 18.
