High-powered tuner cars feature for the second successive week in the latest set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races, seeing out the end of 2024 and the start of the New Year.
You’ll be dealing with road cars packing up to 1,042hp for this high-speed event, which takes you to the Tokyo Expressway East Clockwise course for a four-lap race. The cars are tuned and tweaked for you, so you can only select from the specified loaner vehicles.
It’s quite a lineup too, which sees some Japanese tuner legends and European supercars — nothing American this week — mixing it up. You can select from the Audi R8 V10, Ferrari F40, Lamborghini Gallardo, Mercedes-AMG GT Black, and Pagani Huayra, or the NA2 Honda NSX, Mazda RX-7 Spirit R, R32-R35 generations of Nissan GT-R — with the Nismo 400R representing the R33 — or the Mk4 Toyota Supra.
Whatever your pick, this race won’t affect your Driver Rating (DR), as usual. DR updates remain turned off, as they have done in this event almost exclusively over the past almost-three years, while Sportsmanship Rating (SR) updates are turned back on this week.
Races B and C feature the regular Gr.4 and Gr.3 lineups, with a little intrigue this week too. That mostly comes in Race B, where the Gr.4s feature.
You can pick any of the cars from the class for this six-lap run around the Deep Forest Raceway Reverse course, although as usual it’s the all-wheel drive cars that are filling the top of the leaderboards with 99 of the top 100 times right now.
That’s a little more surprising than usual as you do have access to some tuning options this time. Partial suspension and differential tuning is enabled this week, although as GT7 still doesn’t allow you to save or load settings in a Daily Race you’ll have to be quick in the pre-race lobby to set your car up appropriately.
Finally we have a pretty rote Race C, which takes the Gr.3 cars to Monza for a ten-lap race on Racing Hard tires.
The only real factor of interest in this race is the mandatory pit stop. You’ll need to head down the pit lane any time between the end of lap one and the start of lap ten or you’ll take a one-minute penalty added to your race time at the end. It’s really just a matter of weighing up the loss of slipstream against getting out of traffic.
You don’t need to take fuel or tires to satisfy the requirements, as just heading in and out is enough, and that’s a good job because your tires will show almost no wear throughout the race as the multipliers are both set at 1x. With that in mind, take great care not to cross the pit lane entry or exit lines, as this will give you an in-race penalty of three seconds. Failing to take the stop adds a minute to your race time afterwards.
Daily Races are the main ranked multiplayer events in GT7. Your Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) are determined by your performances, updating after each race, and these are used to set your ranking and league for the game’s flagship esports series each season.
In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.
With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, January 6.
