One of the most expensive race in Gran Turismo history awaits in the latest set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races, as the first trio of events for 2025 is now available.
The event, in Race A, brings together a dozen examples of the joint-dearest car in the game, in the shape of the recently added Mercedes W196R race car. Each one would set you back 20m credits, so that’s a grid worth 240,000,000cr.
Thankfully you can also borrow an example for the event — which means it comes equipped with the required Sports Soft tires — that comprises a three-lap race around the fictional Trial Mountain circuit.
As usual, this race won’t affect your Driver Rating (DR) as updates to this are turned off. However Sportsmanship Rating (SR) updates remain active so take care not to get tangled up in too many incidents or you might face a plummeting rank. Also because any crash could be a quarter of a billion credits’ worth.
For Race B and Race C we see the usual Gr.4 and Gr.3 lineups, although they’re switched from their usual order as the faster Gr.3 cars are placed in the sprint slot of Race B.
That’s a five-lap race of the Suzuka Circuit this week, with Racing Medium tires required for the event. There’s nothing else specific to note for this event, so just pick your preferred car, strap on the correct tires, and go all-out from lights to flag.
Race C then features the Gr.4 cars for an 11-lap race around the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit, and there are a couple of factors you’ll want to heed for this one.
Firstly, you’ll be on Racing Soft tires for this race. Given that tire wear is also set at a 3x multiplier — making the race the equivalent of 33 laps long from the perspective of your rubber — there’s a distinct likelihood of running them down to the canvas.
Additionally, fuel consumption is set at a 5x multiplier, so you might want to consider the rate at which the various cars in the class (which can include the W16-powered Veyron…) before making your choice for the race.
Mitigating both of those things is a mandatory pit stop. You’ll be required to come into the pits anywhere between the end of lap one and the start of lap 11 to serve a stop, but taking on new tires and fuel isn’t required. Although it is wise in this case to at least get tires to maintain late-race pace.
Failing to take the stop earns you a one-minute penalty after the race, and you should also watch out for cutting the pit lane entry and exit lines. Doing that will give you an in-race, three-second penalty each time.
You’ll also have some tuning options available to you this week, although only by way of partial suspension settings. That might allow you to eke out the tire life a little for an advantage.
Daily Races are the main ranked multiplayer events in GT7. Your Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) are determined by your performances, updating after each race, and these are used to set your ranking and league for the game’s flagship esports series each season.
In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.
With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, January 13.
