Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races: Wait and C

Three sprint races await players in the Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races, as they refresh for another week.

You’ll not be troubling the pit lane for a change, with three relatively short, point-and-squirt races all lacking in a strategic element and set to standard tire wear and fuel consumption multipliers.

Race A is a relatively familiar format, comprising a one-make event for road cars. This week the car of choice is the track-ready Mazda Roadster NR-A, and the setting is a circuit which seems like the car was just about made for it: Road Atlanta.

You can borrow one or use an example from your garage for this race, running for four laps of the course set in the undulating Georgia countryside — and also the location for a current Time Trial. If you use your own you’ll need the required Comfort Soft tires fitted, of course.

As is almost always the case this race won’t affect your Driver Rating (DR), with DR updates turned off. However Sportsmanship Rating (SR) updates remain active so be careful with your choices of overtaking places; a lot of this track is single-file running. Well, among sensible people anyway.

Race B features the standard esports class of the game, bringing the Gr.3 cars into play for a short run around the fictional Grand Valley Highway-1 course.

As usual you can select any of the cars from the category and, as it’s the best-balanced of the various racing classes, there’s a bit of a range of viable options. Whichever you pick though you’ll need the slightly slidey Racing Hard tires for this four-lap race.

We’ve got an interesting line-up for Race C, although the class balance is making it an effective one-make race at the moment.

You’ve got a choice of five Gr.1 cars for this event and if you’re familiar with GT7 you’ll probably know that means it’s the Group Cs: the Jaguar XJR-9, Mazda 787B, Mercedes Sauber C9, Nissan R92CP, and Porsche 962.

As the race is running over five laps of the 24 Heures du Mans Circuit in the No Chicane variation, it means that the car that’s fastest in a straight line is a heavily favored one and it’s proving the case that most are selecting the Nissan for the event.

However a lot of players are also reporting some heavy vibration on steering wheel controllers on this car at high speed, so we may see a migration to one of the almost-as-quick machines that can keep up in the slipstream later in the week.

Whichever you select, all five cars are only available in the Legends dealer and none of them are on offer right now so you’ll need to borrow one if you don’t already own one. You’ll also need Racing Medium tires and, despite the regulations hinting at it, there’s no weather effects in this race so it’s a straight, five-lap sprint.

Daily Races are the main ranked multiplayer events in GT7. Your Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) are determined by your performances, updating after each race, and these are used to set your ranking and league for the game’s flagship esports series each season.

In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.

With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, January 20.
