Road cars are taking a rest from this week’s Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races, with three events for vehicles up and down the motorsports ladder.
That begins with some karting action in Daily Race A, as the one-of-one class returns to the rotation for a sprint over eight laps of the compact Tsukuba Circuit.
You can run an example from your own garage or borrow one — which is usually limiting in terms of liveries, but the Gran Turismo Racing Kart 125 has more than a few color schemes — with the race requiring the kart’s unique blend of Sports Soft tires to be fitted.
One thing of which you’ll need to be aware is the “False Start Check”. This has you performing a grid start but with the twist that you actually get control of the car before the lights go out. Caution is needed, as you’ll receive an on-the-spot power loss penalty if you jump the start, which lasts as long after the start as the amount by which you were over-eager — and may result in a clusterbomb of accidents as the grid behind piles into you…
Also note that, as usual, this race won’t affect your Driver Rating (DR). DR updates are turned off, but Sportsmanship Rating (SR) updates remain active. You’ll need to be even more careful than usual, as the twitchy kart can lead to a lot of unintended contact, and it does not like curbs at all…
Race B is its usual simple fare, comprising a car, some tires, a track, and a number of laps with no complicating factors.
For this week that’s a Gr.4 race, open to all vehicles in the category, at the Nurburgring Sprint course, over six laps. You’ll need Racing Hard tires for this race, which currently looks to be dominated by the Lamborghini Huracan but not quite as exclusively as usual.
For this week’s Race C there’s a fair bit going on, so dig in…
You’ll be able to select any car from the Gr.3 category for this 11-lap race at the full Red Bull Ring (and its slightly too-large track map which shaves off a bit of turn three), with Racing Soft tires required.
However, you can apply a little bit of tuning knowledge to your cars too, with limited settings available in suspension and differential. As a note of caution, these settings are not saved between races — still — so you’ll need to enter them in the brief warm-up period every time.
While you might like to tweak for tire life, as the 4x tire wear multiplier will make it an effective 44-lap race — a little too much for soft tires, even here — there is a mandatory pit stop involved.
That’ll require you to head down the pit lane anywhere between the end of lap one and the start of lap 11, and while you don’t need to take fuel or tires when you do so you’ll probably want some tires. Should you somehow miss your stop, you’ll take a one-minute penalty after the race.
You’ll also need a lot of caution entering and exiting the pits, as crossing either line will earn you a three-second penalty to be served on-track.
One final and very unusual note here for a Gr.3 race is that the Grid Start with False Start Check is also enabled for this race. Take caution not to jump the start, between the final light coming on and them all going off, as noted above.
Daily Races are the main ranked multiplayer events in GT7. Your Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) are determined by your performances, updating after each race, and these are used to set your ranking and league for the game’s flagship esports series each season.
In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.
With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, January 27.
