The latest set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races is now available, contrasting a rather leisurely event with a pretty rapid race as some of update 1.55’s new content makes a competitive debut.
Unsurprisingly, the slowest race comes in Race A which retains its usual one-make format. It’s equally not surprising to see that that star car is the new Honda Civic Si Extra — one of two cars in the update yet to feature in an event.
It’s going to be quite a bruising encounter as these warm hatches plod round four laps of the Tokyo Expressway Central Clockwise course, on the required Comfort Medium tires. You can use your own car if you wish — and it’s still just available in the Used Car Dealer, but not for long — or borrow one, which will come in any stock color and with the required tires fitted.
You’ll also need to take care with your Sportsmanship Rating here. Driver Rating updates remain turned off, so there’s no consqeuence to doing well or badly, but SR is on and those walls look awfully close when you’re fighting side-by-side.
Race B appears to be a bit of a brief encounter, comprising a three-lap race for Gr.3 cars at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.
As usual you can select any car from this category for the race, and while it’s the better-balanced of the main racing classes it does look like we’ll see a lot of Supras this week. Whatever car you pick, you’ll need Racing Medium tires, and take car as the short race length may well mean a lot of desperate passing…
We’ve got an unusual mix for Race C, which takes the Gr.2 cars to Fuji International Speedway for a 13-lap race with some strategy involved.
This is a pretty weird class, that includes Le Mans racers from the late-90s, two different seasons of Super GT from eight years apart, and a modern DTM car. It’s also pretty unbalanced, but this week that doesn’t matter as the only cars allowed are the 2008 Super GT machines.
You can pick from the Honda NSX, Lexus SC, and Nissan GT-R — but probably the Honda if you want to do well — and you’ll need Racing Soft tires fitted for the race. The tire wear multiplier isn’t steep, at 3x the standard rate, but you’re going to need fresh rubber at some point — though fuel isn’t an issue.
That’s just as well as there’s also a mandatory pit stop. You’ll be required to head down the pit lane at some point — picking up fuel or tires is optional, but the latter is unavoidable this week — or you’ll end up with a minute being added to your race time as a penalty. While that’s pretty moot, one thing that isn’t is the pit lane entry and exit: crossing the lines will earn you a three-second on-track penalty each time.
Unusually, and after some recent changes, we’re back to seeing rolling starts in all three races this week. Shame.
Daily Races are the main ranked multiplayer events in GT7. Your Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) are determined by your performances, updating after each race, and these are used to set your ranking and league for the game’s flagship esports series each season.
In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.
With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, February 17.
