Three more new events await in the Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races, with a fresh set starting today and running over the next week.
We’ve got a bit of an unusual look this week in the three races, with some regular format choices taking a bit of a shake-up, so you’re going to need to keep your wits about you for the next seven days.
That starts right in Race A, although it’s still a one-make race as usual and still features road cars as has been the predominant choice throughout GT7’s life. This week though, you can’t pick your own machine as the car is available as a rental only with a pre-set tune (including the Comfort Soft tires) and a range of new liveries.
You’ll only need to pick which Plymouth Superbird you want then (and we reckon the #34 will be the most popular) for this seven-lap, full-throttle battle at Daytona’s Tri-Oval course. That’s right, you’ll be doing an old school, mini-NASCAR race.
While we normally see Driver Rating (DR) updates turned off for this event and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) remaining active, this week’s race sees both rating systems inactive. That does make it effectively an unranked race though, but then again it’s also guilt-free…
Race B seems ordinary by comparison to the other two this week, comprising a regular, four-lap blast at Autodrome Lago Maggiore’s full circuit for the Gr.3 cars.
You’ll need Racing Medium tires for the race, which has very little by the way of complexity. Pretty much the only consideration is what Gr.3 you pick, and it looks like the top times are all heading towards the Supra.
That leads us into Race C, which has something a bit different about it this week as you head to Mount Panorama for a nine-lap race in the Gr.4 cars.
However it’s not just any Gr.4, as you’ll be limited to the front-wheel drive cars. There’s six in total — Audi TT, Mazda 3, Peugeot RCZ, Renault Megane, Suzuki Swift, and Volkswagen Scirocco — but at time of writing all but four of the top 100 times have been set in just one of them: the Mazda.
You’ll probably want to play around with traction control, as the race features a grid start which the FWD cars don’t get on with all that well. Not only that, there’s a false start check too. For this you’ll need to hold the car on the handbrake or brakes between the final light coming on and them going out to start the race, or you’ll get an on-the-spot engine torque penalty for as long after the start as the amount by which you jumped it.
There’s more layers of complexity still, as you also have a mandatory pit stop to contend with. That means that, at some point between the end of lap one and the start of lap nine, you’ll need to take a trip down pit road. You don’t need to take on fuel or tires when you do so; one visit to the pit lane is all it takes to satisfy this requirement. Failing to do so earns you a one-minute penalty after the race.
That said, it might be an idea to take new tires, as the 4x tire wear multiplier will be pushing the Racing Medium tires to their limits and give you some painful final laps if you don’t. Watch out for exceeding pit lane entry and exit limits as well. Each infraction scores you a three-second penalty which you’ll need to serve on-track on your next lap.
Daily Races are the main ranked multiplayer events in GT7. Your Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) are determined by your performances, updating after each race, and these are used to set your ranking and league for the game’s flagship esports series each season.
In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.
With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, March 17.
