Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races: Fantastic Four

A fresh set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races is now available, offering up the chance for players to boost their Driver Rating (or otherwise) ahead of the upcoming official Nations Cup qualifiers.

There’s a light jiggling to the order of things this week, although we do still see a one-make road car race joined by a pair of events for the Gr.4 and Gr.3 cars originally intended to be the core of the esports side of Gran Turismo Sport.

You’ll be doing a bit of the grand tour in Race A this week, as you whip a classic Italian motor up the alpine passes of southern Switzerland, on the Eiger Nordwand course — still the most recently added circuit to GT7 despite arriving in July 2024.

The car for this week’s event is the Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT ’67, which is a pretty good fit as far as these things go. You won’t be going too quickly for the narrow circuit (although the less said about the rolling start the better), or the Comfort Soft tires required.

It’s a five-lap run around the circuit, and you’ll be pleased to learn that you can borrow an example if you don’t currently have one as it’s not available in Legends Cars right now. As ever, Driver Rating (DR) updates are turned off for this event but Sportsmanship Rating (SR) updates remain active, so watch out in those tight hairpins.

Race B is sprint by name and by nature, this week featuring the Gr.3 cars. You’ll be able to pick any vehicle from the category for this event — again, borrowing one in a standard livery if you don’t have the one you want — which comprises a five-lap run around the short Nurburgring Sprint course.

You’ll need Racing Medium tires for this event, and they’ll be fitted to the rental cars as standard, and there doesn’t seem to be a particular vehicle of choice for this race right now judging by the leaderboards so feel free to go with your heart.

The biggest shake-up comes in Race C, which features the Gr.4 cars this week. Unusually though, you’ll only be able to choose the front-engined, rear-wheel drive models for the race — which is staged at the combined, and lengthy, Kyoto Driving Park Yamagiwa+Miyabi course.

Again, there’s no overwhelming favorite this week, although the Aston Martin Vantage is packing out the leaderboards — and the lack of tire wear and fuel consumption multipliers means that whatever’s quick on one lap should be quick over the eight of the race too as the required Racing Mediums will barely wear.

There are a couple of additional pieces of information worth noting this week. Firstly there’s a Grid Start with False Start Check in effect. This will require you to hold the car on the brakes or handbrake once the final start light has come on, to prevent the car moving until the lights go off.

Should you move at all, you’ll get an on-the-spot cut in power which lasts until the race actually starts and then for the same amount of time after it. If you’re high up the grid, this can cause quite the incident as unsighted cars behind may pile into you.

Additionally there is a mandatory pit stop. Despite the fact you’ll not need tires or fuel in this race, you will need to head into the pit lane at some point between the end of lap one and the start of lap eight. You can skip all the tire/fuel options, as all that’s required is a trip through the pits to satisfy this rule.

Failing to make the stop will score you a one-minute, post-race penalty, and do watch out for the pit entry and exit lines as crossing them with any part of a tire will earn you a three-second penalty (each time) that you’ll need to serve on-track in the penalty zone. It’s not a tricky pit lane in this orientation of the circuit though.

Daily Races are the main ranked multiplayer events in GT7. Your Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) are determined by your performances, updating after each race, and these are used to set your ranking and league for the game’s flagship esports series each season.

In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.

With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, April 28.
