Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races: Steer Clio

The regular Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races return today with a new set of three events to take on over the next seven days.

This week’s trio follows the usual format of a road car one-make in the first slot and events for the Gr.4 and Gr.3 cars in the other two, with a little strategy thrown into the mix for the last event.

For Race A this week you’ll be taking on the Brands Hatch Indy Circuit over an eight-lap blast in the madcap Renault Sport Clio V6. Engineered by Renault as a then-modern day 5 Turbo, the Clio V6 uses the humble front-wheel drive hatchback as a basis for a mid-engined, rear-wheel drive performance car.

While it had an advantage over its regular hot hatch sibling, the extra weight of the V6 — both from the heavy, three-liter unit and all the solutions needed to stuff it behind the driver — meant it wasn’t quite a leap in performance, and the short wheelbase made for an interesting driving experience, especially in the wet.

You won’t have to deal with that in the race this week, but it can still be a bit wild as you slap on Sports Medium tires rather than the stock Comfort Soft item. Note that, as usual, there’s no Driver Rating (DR) updates in this race, but Sportsmanship Rating (SR) remain active.

Dragon Trail Gardens hosts Gr.4 for this week’s Race B, for a five-lap race on Racing Hard tires. As is quite often the case with the Gr.4 events you’ll find that the all-wheel drive models on the roster are proving quite dominant this week, with 97% of the top 100 running various vehicles with four-paw power. That should translate into the race too, as there’s no tire wear to deal with in this sprint event.

However tire wear will come into play in Race C this week, which sees a 6x multiplier in force — scrubbing your rubber six times faster than normal — as well as a mandatory pit stop during the 14-lap race of Laguna Seca.

It’s an event for the Gr.3 cars, and with the high wear rate on Racing Medium tires in mind it does seem like the tire-preserving champions are moving towards the top of the leaderboard. While not overwhelming, the Subaru BRZ — fresh off its championship win in London this weekend — looks like a particular favorite.

You’re going to need to take a trip down pit lane at least once during the race, and it doesn’t seem like it’s close to probable that you can do the whole race on one set of tires even in the BRZ so you may as well strap on a fresh set in the process.

If you, somehow, skip the stop you’ll be faced with a one-minute penalty after the race, but unlike most circuits you don’t need to worry too much about earning pit-lane entry/exit penalties at Laguna. In fact you don’t even need to brake before the cut-scene takes over…

Daily Races are the main ranked multiplayer events in GT7. Your Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) are determined by your performances, updating after each race, and these are used to set your ranking and league for the game’s flagship esports series each season.

In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.

With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, June 16.
