As Gran Turismo 7 starts to officially land on doormats and the digital version unlocks for players around the world, there’s a good chance that millions of you will be picking up the game.
With a huge new game in front of players, with so many things to do, see, buy, and race, it’s pretty likely that there’ll be questions. Lots of questions.
We’ve been keeping an eye on the GTPlanet forums and social media channels, as well as the wider internet, over the last few weeks to compile a list of the most-frequently asked questions out there, and their answers.
As understanding of the title evolves over the coming days, we’ll be adding more questions and answers to help everyone get the most out of Gran Turismo 7. If you have questions you think could go into this FAQ, ask them in the comments thread.
When did Gran Turismo 7 come out?
Gran Turismo 7 launched on March 4, 2022, rolling out at midnight in each local timezone.
What devices can I use to play Gran Turismo 7?
You’ll be able to play Gran Turismo 7 on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles. However the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition will not be able to play the disc version of the game, nor the digital upgrade from the PlayStation 4 disc version, as the console doesn’t have a disc drive.
What are the different versions of Gran Turismo 7?
There are three different specifications of Gran Turismo 7, with availability depending on region, though with the different consoles in the mix too — and digital and disc versions — there’s technically eight versions:
- Gran Turismo 7 (Standard Edition) for PlayStation 4
- Gran Turismo 7 (Standard Edition) for PlayStation 5
- Gran Turismo 7 (Standard Edition) Digital for PlayStation 4
- Gran Turismo 7 (Standard Edition) Digital for PlayStation 4/5
- Gran Turismo 7 Launch Edition for PlayStation 4
- Gran Turismo 7 Launch Edition for PlayStation 5
- Gran Turismo 7 25th Anniversary Edition for PlayStation 4 & 5
- Gran Turismo 7 25th Anniversary Digital Deluxe for PlayStation 4 & 5
The PS4 disc and digital versions can be played on either PS4 or PS5 consoles, however they will not benefit from PS5 enhancements unless upgraded to the PS5 version at a later date — at a cost of $10.
That means you will need to be careful which standard digital version you buy, as both are labelled as PS4/PS5 compatible, but only the $10 more expensive item has the PS5 enhancements. PS5 disc versions cannot be played on PS4 consoles at all.
The Launch Editions seem to be exclusive to the North America region, and come with pre-order bonuses included.
In addition, the 25th Anniversary Editions (25AE) both come with a digital copy of the PS4 game, as well as digital (Digital Deluxe) or disc versions of the PS5 game. Beware that the digital PS4 voucher in the disc version of 25AE cannot be subsequently upgraded to a PS5 version.
Is there crossplay in Gran Turismo 7?
Yes, players on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 can race against each other in the same multiplayer lobbies. However it appears that crossplay is disabled for Daily Races, although it is available in official esports championships.
What’s the maximum display resolution and refresh rate in Gran Turismo 7?
When running on the PlayStation 5 console, the PS5 version of the game will hit 4K resolution (3840×2160) at 60fps. However Ray Tracing mode, which enables real-time ray tracing effects in some non-gameplay modes for more realistic lighting, will see the frame rate drop below that.
On the PlayStation 4 console, we’ll see an upper limit of 1080p (1920×1080) resolution at 60fps, and Ray Tracing Mode will not be available. The PS4 Pro should allow for its maximum 4K checkerboard resolution (3200×1800, upscaled to 4K) at 60fps, again with Ray Tracing Mode unavailable.

What is GT Cafe in Gran Turismo 7?
GT Cafe acts as a central hub for Gran Turismo 7’s single-player mode. You’ll be set challenges, by way of “menu books”, which tell you about certain game functions but also ask you to collect vehicles of a certain type or participate in races.
Each time you finish a menu book you’ll get rewards, many of which in the early stages of the game unlock circuits and areas of the home world map. Whenever you start a Menu Book, the game will display a gold compass icon to guide you to where you need to go, as well as in the top-left area of the screen.
The Cafe also hosts a museum of sorts. People directly linked to the cars you collect — like designers and engineers — appear to tell you about the cars and their connection to them.
What is Music Rally in Gran Turismo 7?
Music Rally is a new game mode that sees you driving not against the clock but against the beat of a song.
As you drive, the number of beats counts down as the music plays, and when you run out of remaining beats your race is over. However if you pass a checkpoint it replenishes some of the beats, giving you a chance to drive further. The goal is to drive as far as you can before the song ends!
Are there used cars in Gran Turismo 7?
Yes, and there’s two different types.
Firstly there’s regular used cars. These can be cars made before 2001 that you can’t pick up in Brand Central, or they can be secondhand examples of the more recent cars that you can also buy new. They are roughly 20% cheaper in Used Cars, but they do have some mileage — and wear and tear — on them.
There’s also Legends Cars. This special dealership, originally called Brighton Antiques but now called Hagerty, stocks famous, rare, and unique cars from across history. They’re usually pretty expensive too, and the prices update every few months to reflect real-world changes in value!
Each dealer rotates some of its stock each day (at 0000 UTC), so sometimes the cars you want or need are not available.

How do I increase my Gran Turismo 7 Collector Level?
To increase your collector level, you’ll need to collect cars!
Very specifically, you will earn one Collector Point for every full 1,000cr value of any car you buy or win. If you buy or win a car worth 20,000cr, you’ll get 20 Collector Points, but if it’s worth 19,999cr you’ll only get 19 points. The number of points you need for each level increases, with 1,510 points — equivalent to a garage worth 1,510,000cr — required to hit level 10.
Increasing your Collector Level gives you access to better tuning parts and to new events in the Mission Challenge section, as well as new Extra Menu Books added in updates. The maximum Collector Level is 50.
