A new Gran Turismo 7 Online Time Trial event is now available, marking the first such event in 2024 and bringing the biggest of Gran Turismo nostalgia hits along with it.
These Online Time Trial events in GT7 are time-limited, hot-lap challenges located in the game’s Sport Mode. They’re relatively lucrative too, with up to 2,000,000cr available for each event should you be fast enough.
That depends on how close you are to the world’s best time when the event ends though, making each of the goal times a dynamic target which changes whenever the current record is beaten. You’ll need to be within 3% at the end to score gold and the 2m-credit boost, with 1m for being within 5% and 250,000cr if you’re within 10%.
You’ll be heading to the Trial Mountain circuit this week, redesigned for Gran Turismo 7, in an event that will fill you with ‘member berries for the days of the original — and now 26-year old — Gran Turismo.
That’s because your car for the week is the 1997 Toyota Supra GT500, probably best known as the “Castrol Supra” hero car from the 1997 game. You can borrow one for the event, to save putting miles onto your own car (or your pre-order bonus!), as settings are fixed and balance of performance (BOP) is set to medium; Racing Hard tires are required.
Early top times are in the high-1:50 region, requiring a flat-1:54 or better for Gold. It’s pretty likely we’ll see that wandering downwards over the next two weeks, maybe to as little as a 1:50 flat — so figure on something below a mid-1:53 for a safe Gold.
The Spa-Francorchamps Lap Time Challenge that began last week is still available too, until next Thursday, January 11. Currently the world record for this time trial stands at 2:37.796, requiring a 2:42.529 or better for Gold. That’s not likely to move much now, but a 2:42.3 will probably be safe.
In order to access the Online Time Trials, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. PlayStation Plus is not required, as they are not multiplayer events.
The events update every Thursday, with each individual challenge remaining available for two weeks and the oldest of the two events being replaced each week. That being the case, the next new Time Trial should arrive at 0700 UTC on Thursday January 11.
