The new Gran Turismo 7 Online Time Trial challenge is now available to all players, with a choice of vehicles available with which to secure up to two million credits for the quickest of drivers.
A relatively lucrative game mode, GT7’s Online Time Trial events are hot-lap challenges within the game’s Sport Mode which refresh each week. Each individual time trial lasts for 14 days, meaning that there’s two available at any one time, and — as there’s no direct multiplayer — you don’t need a PS Plus subscription to take part.
If you want the top prize though you’ll need to be pretty quick. Your reward depends on how close you are to the final record time when the event closes — which means that the target is dynamic and depends on how feisty the top players are feeling. Should the world record fall, so will the time required for the prize brackets.
You’ll need to be within 3% of the top time globally to score the 2,000,000cr “Gold” prize, with one million for the “Silver” bracket of up to 5% away, or 250,000cr for being “Bronze” and within 10%.
There’s some variety on offer this week, as you’ll be racing your choice of Gr.4 car on Racing Hard tires around the full Autopolis circuit.
It’s a veritable cascade of off-camber corners, so the usual suspects in the category — being front- or four-wheel drive — might struggle; indeed the top times right now are coming from the old favorite Toyota GR Supra Gr.4 car.
Those times currently sit at a 1:53 flat, setting the Gold marker at 1:56.4 or less. It’s very early days though, and we wouldn’t be too surprised to see a mid-1:52 by the end, so you’ll want a 1:55.8 to be relatively secure for the biggest wallet bump.
The Genesis Vision GT Lap Time Challenge at Monza which went live last week will still be available for the next seven days too. Currently the world record stands at a 1:36.2, setting the Gold time at 1:39.1 — but there’s still plenty of time for players to find more from this very new vehicle so you’ll probably want to see a 1:38.8 to be able to relax.
In order to access the Online Time Trials, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. PlayStation Plus is not required, as they are not multiplayer events.
The events update every Thursday, with each individual challenge remaining available for two weeks and the oldest of the two events being replaced each week. You can look forward to the next new Time Trial arriving at 0700 UTC on Thursday February 8.
