A new Gran Turismo 7 Online Time Trial is now available, as a high-power track toy stands between you and a potential two million credits.
The star of the show this week (or this fortnight, rather) is the Aston Martin Vulcan. Given that this time trial event replaces one in which a 800hp+, front-engined monster intended for track use only was the car of choice, PD is clearly sticking to a theme!
Of course there are some key differences too. The Vulcan, as well as being a real car, is not aimed at being an LMH/LMDh machine, so downforce won’t be quite as key to a fast time. Additionally the Vulcan is rear-wheel drive only, and all-motor — all 800 ponies come from a naturally aspirated, seven-liter V12, with no turbos or hybrid system.
Chances are that you’ll need to rely on the loan of a vehicle for this one, as the Vulcan is not only one of the most expensive Brand Central cars in the game, at 3.3m credits, but it’s also locked behind the rather unloved Invitation system too.
You will at least have the benefit of Racing Soft tires for this time trial and it’s a slightly shorter and more familiar circuit to most as the venue is the Autodrome Jose Carlos Pace — also known as the Interlagos circuit.
Early pacesetters have brought the top time right down to the bottom of the 1:26s, so we’re expecting a mid-1:25 to be the eventual record — if not a tenth or so lower. With that in mind, you’ll want to break into the 1:27s if you want gold by the close of play.
You’ve still got a week remaining if you want to enter the Dragon Trail Gardens Time Trial posted last week. Times have dropped pretty much into the expected range, with the world record now at 1:47.730. It doesn’t appear that there’s much, if anything, left here, so if you can hit the current gold target of 1:50.961 there’s a good chance you’ll be getting the 2m credits come next Thursday — but maybe try for a point-eight.
Players in certain European countries will also have access to a special Time Trial offering a VIP trip for one player (and a plus-one) to the GT World Series Finals in Amsterdam. You can find out more about this here.
In order to access the Online Time Trials, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. As it’s just you against the clock and not a direct, head-to-head multiplayer event, PlayStation Plus is not required.
You’ll usually need to be within 3% of the fastest time globally once the event finishes in order to secure “gold” status and a 2m credit bonus prize. There’s smaller prizes of one million for being within 5%, and 250,000cr for bronze at 10% off.
The events update every Thursday, with each individual challenge usually remaining available for two weeks and the oldest of the two events being replaced each week. You can look forward to the next new Time Trial arriving at 0700 UTC on Thursday October 31.
