A new Gran Turismo 7 Online Time Trial is now available, with another road car event set to challenge players in the global hot-lap event.
It’s another event that puts you into a ~250hp road car on treaded tires, but it’s a little different from the S2000 challenge that it just replaced. Firstly, you’ll have more grip, and secondly, you’re going to be dragged along rather than pushed.
That’s because it’s the Renault Sport Megane RS Trophy ’11 (not to be confused the mid-engined Gr.4 Trophy), formerly the record-holder for front-wheel drive cars around the Nurburgring Nordschleife. And probably still the record-holder for the exact car model most stuffed into the outside barriers of the same corner at the Nordschleife as owners attempt to replicate it.
The Megane will be shod with Sports Hard tires as you’re set the challenge of recording the fastest lap you can at the Goodwood Motor Circuit — with a little more run-off than Schwedenkreuz, for the most part.
Currently the world record for this combination is a 1:24.381 (set by someone with quite the username), which places the gold threshold at 1:26.912.
We think that there’s potential for this to descend quite a bit, certainly into the 1:23s, over the next couple of weeks, particularly once the road car specialists start to post times. Figure on needing at least a 1:26.3 for gold by the time the event closes in two weeks’ time.
The open-category Gr.4 time trial which started last week remains available for another seven days too, and times are right in the zone we expected.
Currently the record is a 2:03.790, setting the gold boundary at 2:07.503. The tight nature of the times at the top suggest that there’s not a lot left to gain (and that 99 of the top 100 use the Huracan) so if you’re already gold you’re probably safe. Nonetheless, aiming to hit a 2:07.2xx time should secure it.
In order to access the Online Time Trials, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. As it’s just you against the clock and not a direct, head-to-head multiplayer event, PlayStation Plus is not required.
You’ll usually need to be within 3% of the fastest time globally once the event finishes in order to secure “gold” status and a 2m credit bonus prize. There’s smaller prizes of one million for being within 5%, and 250,000cr for bronze at 10% off.
The events update every Thursday, with each individual challenge usually remaining available for two weeks and the oldest of the two events being replaced each week. You can look forward to the next new Time Trial arriving at 0700 UTC on Thursday December 19.
