Gran Turismo 7 Online Time Trial: Triple Header

There’s a familiar-looking new Online Time Trial available in Gran Turismo 7 starting today, as you’ll be driving the same combination as two other current events…

That might mean some pretty competitive times, as players will be getting plenty of practice in, setting qualifying laps for both a Daily Race and a weekend GT World Series event so it’s likely to be a tough one in which to hit gold.

If you hadn’t already guessed by now, the event features the 2023 Super Formula Dallara SF23 — with both Honda- and Toyota- engined variants eligible — running at the Suzuka Circuit in Japan. That’s also the opening round of the real world series, starting this coming weekend too.

Just like the Daily Race, you’ll be required to have Racing Soft tires fitted to your choice of SF23. The GTWS event has mandatory Medium and Soft tires, so practice times will also be set on the Soft tires. You’ll have plenty of practice then..

The top times have already broken under the 1:35 marker, and by a handy margin, but we reckon they’re going to keep on tumbling over the next couple of weeks — more so in the lead up to the GTWS race on Saturday — so a mid-1:34 is definitely on the cards. That’ll set gold at or about a 1:37.3, so that should be your target over the next two weeks.

A week remains on the event that features the recently added BMW Z4, with the times broadly in the zone we’d been expecting — and thankfully not as quick as we were fearing.

Currently the record stands at a 1:37.135, setting the gold marker only fractionally above a 1:40. There’s still a chance that this could fall but we’re still thinking a 1:36 is unlikely, so aim for a 1:39.9 dead if you want to be reasonably sure of gold.

In order to access the Online Time Trials, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. As it’s just you against the clock and not a direct, head-to-head multiplayer event, PlayStation Plus is not required.

You’ll usually need to be within 3% of the fastest time globally once the event finishes in order to secure “gold” status and a 2m credit bonus prize. There’s smaller prizes of one million for being within 5%, and 250,000cr for bronze at 10% off.

The events update every Thursday, with each individual challenge usually remaining available for two weeks and the oldest of the two events being replaced each week. You can look forward to the next new Time Trial arriving at 0700 UTC on Thursday March 13.
