The last Gran Turismo 7 Online Time Trial event for 2023 is now available, with a new road car challenge running over the next two weeks.
Online Time Trials in GT7 are time-limited, hot-lap events within the game’s Sport Mode. However a PlayStation Plus subscription isn’t required as there’s no direct head-to-head play. Each individual challenge runs for two weeks, with two at any given time and a fresh event every Thursday.
There’s good rewards available too with up to 2,000,000cr available each time should you be fast enough. However the targets for each reward aren’t fixed, as they depend on how far away you are from the best time globally once the event closes.
Get within 3% of the final best time and you’ll earn a gold trophy and that two-million credit boost. Within 5% gets you silver and 1,000,000cr, while being within 10% is a 250,000cr bronze reward. Beware though: the world’s fastest players seek to set the best time right up to the end!
This week’s event takes you to one of the most famous race tracks in the world, in a car that never really lived up to its early promise — not helped by a bizarre, insectoid headlight refresh before its global launch.
You’ll need an Alfa Romeo 4C First Edition 2014 for the time trial — and note that this is the original vehicle rather than the fictional Gr.3 Road Car homologation model — although as usual you can borrow the car for the event rather than using your own vehicle.
With Sports Medium tires fitted, the goal is to set the fastest lap time you can around the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps course. Given the 4C’s relative lack of power, it’ll be all about keeping the speeds up in the high-speed corners particularly and avoiding going over track limits.
At this early stage, the best times are started to get into the low-2:38s, with Gold now just under a 2:43. We’d expect the eventual top time to be in the mid-2:37 range, requiring a low-2:42; figure on a high-2:41 to be safe by the time the event closes on January 11.
The Fuji Speedway Lap Time Challenge that began last week is still available until next Thursday. Currently the world record for this time trial stands at 1:26.451, requiring a 1:29.044 or better for Gold, but you’ll want a 1:28 to be more certain of it.
In order to access the Online Time Trials, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. PlayStation Plus is not required, as they are not multiplayer events.
The events update every Thursday, with each individual challenge remaining available for two weeks and the oldest of the two events being replaced each week. That being the case, the next new Time Trial should arrive at 0700 UTC on Thursday January 4.
